Remix that motherfucker, send it to the underground and Prince would have had the masses (and the critics) floored.

Nonsense, the human body is one of his worst tracks.

The only thing he might have possibly sood underground was
"Sadomasochistic Groove" along with a nice sm video, with
him wearing one of them masks, tied to a bed being spanked
by gorgeous women. Lots of chains, leather, ropes and some
plush sweaty melon booty.

Oh wait, he already did that and called it A-U-T-Omatic smile

But no, I think if anything had been sent out without any
name on it, SM Groove might have been the one with the best
shot at that time [96/97]. [The original version with the
arcade pinball bells and the weird echo laden reverb, not
the version that was ultimately released on npgmc].

The Human Body sounds too clinical if you ask me. It's got
some nice elements and the idea if pretty great but it just
doesn't go anywhere. It's like someone else said, it doesnt
sound like a techno record it sounds like early 90's house.
In fact, it sounds more dated than "The Future" remix which
was recorded 7 years prior.

There were other songs on Emancipation that would have done
well. Why on earth pick "Betcha" as the first single?? It
was disaster waiting to happen. Especially with the amount
of attention that first 'free' album got from everywhere.

Face Down would have been a better first single, although
not very representative of the rest of the package.

What made Batdance so successful back then? It was more than just the movie hype!

Was it? What makes you say that - even a die hard fan had to admit that after the brilliance released in the few yrs previous, it was a shame that this was this was his first transatlantic top two single. Did wonders for his bank balance, but a classic example of hype.

Nonsense, the human body is one of his worst tracks.

That doesn't necessarily equate with commercial viability.

All I'm interested on this thread is sales. Forget whether it was a good record in context to Prince's body of work, or whether it was representative of the rest of the album, or indeed if was retro. Remix the motherfucker, deliver it to the underground and there's an example of how Prince could have gone global when he wanted to (and still maintained his street appeal). It happens all the time!

Perhabs the worst of all is that the album Emancipation was sooo intended to be commercially 'viable...
