'Father's Song' rip-off is a top five hit for Ronan Keating

There, I've said it.

I am now sick of hearing my colleagues argue that 'The Long Goodbye' sounds suspiciously like 'Purple Rain'.

But, in my opinion, Ronan Keating's 'The long Goodbye', (currently sitting at number three in the UK charts) is just a blatant rip-off of 'Father's Song', both in pace and melodic content.

It could be that tinkling piano melody is just "generic" and that no-one can rightfully claim ownership to it.

But to these ears, it's 'Father's Song' all the way.

I wonder if anybody else has noticed the striking similarity hmm

I didn't because Ronan shmuck does not exist as a musician in my world... Though he made me laugh when he fell down in slow motion before the car (forgot the song title!!!)

Yeah the instrumental sway is a blatant take on Purple Rain. I doubt he and his writers have heard Fathers Song though...

Exactly what I was thinking.

It's not like it's beyond Ronan Keating's "writers" to rent a video copy of 'Purple Rain'. Besides, it's been on repeat several times on UK TV.

'Father's Song' is a recurring musical theme throughout the movie, and so it should be very familiar indeed to most ears.

Hahaha I knew it was a dumb thing as soon as I said it. I guess I meant Ronan probably hadn't heard the song. His writers will be doing research on far more obscure projects than "Fathers Song" yeah...

Prince has posted a sample of the Ronan song at his site now in the "Digital Garden" section.
