Bestest Friend 4:38 10. How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore? (live) 5:54 youtu.be/fUbmeB4AYPI?si… https://superdeluxeeditio...-timeless/ Timeless is a forthcoming Prince compilation of “rare and unreleased” studio recordings. The 10-track collection features tracks from Prince’s Vault and spans the entirety of Prince’s career from 1977 to 2016. Songs on what appears to be a chronological compilation include ‘I Am You’, a home recording from 1978 which was performed live twice in early 1979 and never played again, ‘Tick, Tick, Bang’ an unreleased recording from 1981 which was later re-recorded for the Graffiti Bridge album. ‘Heaven’ a song committed to tape in 1985 and never issued and ‘I Wonder’ which was recorded four years later in 1989 and is also unreleased. Timeless includes Prince’s 1995 recording of ‘Stone’ – at one point slated for Emancipation – and ‘The Guilty Ones’ which is a much more recent unreleased track from 2007. This set also features ‘With This Tear’, the November 1991 recording that was made available digitally on the 10th anniversary of Prince’s death, last month and a live version of 1999 B-side ‘How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore’. The audio has been mastered (and presumably, in many cases, mixed) by Chris James, the engineer who has been responsible for the various Prince Atmos Mixes that have been made available in recent years. James has clearly earned the role of ‘trusted technician’ when it comes to mix/mastering projects related to Prince (SDE spoke to Chris last year about his Purple Rain Atmos Mix). Timeless will be released on CD and vinyl on 28 August 2026 via Sony. [Edited 6/4/26 9:14am] If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Why on earth put a live version of a song we've all heard thousands of times on this release.

My god, they just don’t learn. That mix of Stone is atrocious. There’s no way that’s Prince on that horrible keyboard overlay. It just totally screws up the original, I just can’t right now ..

Such a strange release. Why only 10 songs.
I'm guessing the live song is from piano and a mic. Heaven is a shorter version. Still the main song on the set for me. It appears to run in chronological order [Edited 6/4/26 5:34am] [Edited 6/4/26 5:41am]

LOL. Ten random tracks, including a live version of a well-known track. This is the best these clowns could come up with a year and a half after they loudly yelled that "the vault is free"? . We are so fucked.

Guess I'll say one positive thing in spite of this laughably underwhelming announcement: I am eager to hear an "official" version of Heaven, because the circulating bootleg never felt like an actual song to me. It always seemed like the second half of an extended mix or something.

Only 1 cd and only 10 tracks... The Stone's mixing...
I'm far away to be happy.

This is embarrassing. Who is gonna be like “gotta get that new Prince album called ‘Timeless’ it looks great!” Absolutely no one. The few influencers who probably get paid by the estate will eat it up. At least with “Originals” it had a theme there and they put an effort into the cover art. Just what is this.. Worse than the Michael Jackson estate and that’s saying something

There are at least four tracks on this that I haven't heard, and with the others, we don't know which version we might get. It is curious that "all a share together now, " and some of the other vault tracks that have been individually released are not included. I am happy that we are getting something ☺️

"I Wonder" is half a minute longer, than the version we have. But "Heaven" is just an edit (more than 3 minutes missing). NPG Radio:

These clowns couldn't have an original thought to save their lives. I said over five years ago, there should be a compilation album called Timeless. But that was obviously referring to Prince's version of Time tracks. These morons can't even rip off a good idea correctly. The level of incompetence is truly something to behold. Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

At this point I'm happy something is actually coming - which says a lot about how low the bar is hanging at the moment.

Such a weird mix of Stone, it's like the guitar has almost vanished. Always happy to hear some new music, but this seems like a weird little grab-bag of random things.

It could have been worse. Like: "Vault Series Vol.2", "All A Share Together Now [Stereo]" "7 (E Flat Version) [Mono]", + any random live Version of "Free" so that we all can finally learn to understand that we should be glad for what we've got. NPG Radio:

Completely random assortment of songs, with no common theme or denominator. Absolutely no sense of curatorial intent or competence. What a joke.

it seems quite strange to me that Prince put that ongoing cowbell in there and so heavy in the mix It's a mediocre song for a first release. And they should've left 'With This Tear' out of this release too. They could've released a 45 rpm single with With This Tear as a b-side.
