I hope they never do any combo. I'm glad they split D&P and prince to release them seperetly.

D&P and Symbol weren't tied together like Lovesexy and TBA. TBA doesn't deserve it's own SDE so it would be cool to add it onto the Lovesexy album. That's how I look at it.

Soon as it was announced I knew D&P SD was a foolish endeavor that would underperform. Fortunately we got the "Live At Glam Slam" show, however. The Symbol outtakes have already leaked in good quality and are mostly boring (to me). I wouldn't have purchased them. I sold my D&P SD soon after buying it. There's only a few vault tracks from that I care to ever hear again. Now I feel the same about Symbol outtakes. They should just release them digitially at this point. the 1979-1989 era is what will sell. 1999 SD sold out (a reissue would make sense). SOTT SD charted well for the price and size. D&P SD flopped. A Symbol SD would flop even harder.

In my opinion the only SENSIBLE Super Deluxe candidates are:

Dirty Mnd/Controversy

Purple Rain

Parade

Graffiti Bridge (including the movie)

Come/Gold/Ulysses

Prince Jazz (all the jazz albums in one box...including Madhouse!)

Now 2 to 4 disc Deluxe Editions is another story:

Prince ("the early years")

Black Album/Lovesexy

Batman

Symbol

Slaugherhouse/Choco invasion

The Rainbow Children

Musicology

3121

20ten. (the deluxe that didn't happen)

A combo Black Album/Lovesexy SDE would top my list. Controversy would be my next choice.

I agree, those two albums (TBA and Lovesexy) are linked so closely that a double SDE would make a lot of sense.

I'll rank the ones that I think would even be remotely possible.

For You: 5

Prince: 7.5

Dirty Mind: 9.5

Controversy: 10 (most wanted)

Purple Rain: 9.5

Around the World in a Day: 7.5

Parade: 9.5

The Black Album/Lovesexy: 9.5

Batman: 7.5

Graffiti Bridge: 8

Symbol: 8

Come/The Gold Experience: 9.5

Emancipation: 3 (we already kind of have it with the 3 discs, don't we?) razz

Musicology: 2

3121: 8

I'd be interested in stuff like One Nite Alone, Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic (perhaps with the original Rave '89 stuff), and Art Official Age, but I don't see these happening.

Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I’ll go ZERO on all of them. The SDEs have been nothing but a sh!tstain on the man’s legacy.
I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

I actually kinda agree with this, but maybe would use different language lol.

For me, I'd rather they abandon the SDE model - by all means release vault material presented chronologically via NPGMC or bandcamp or something, clearly signposted as unfinished demos.
Don't attach these tracks to classic albums which are already completed projects. It feels too much like rewriting history for me.

I feel the same way about all the unnecessary remastering based on modern tastes etc. But I accept this is not a widely accepted view smile It kinda breaks my heart to see all these SDE things supplanting the original works etc.

Yep. The SDE-thingy with a bunch of mish-mash extra stuff is an archaic concept that might apply to certain bands or artists with a much more limited output than Prince. Said this, I'll still take whatever ever gets released out of the vault in any form. But I also feel somewhat of a sacrilege to augment perfectly crafted albums with whatever extras as good as they could be.

What’s with the suggestion that Dirty Mind and Controversy should be remastered/expanded together as a combo? Both eras stand alone on their own, they both have at least enough unreleased material to add a second disc (plus a live audio and video footage). Dirty Mind is Prince truly breaking out as an artist, raw, underground, experimental, punk funk. Controversy is him continuing down that path but expanding his sound by recording songs for the Time and The Hookers, the bridge between DM and 1999, not to mention the aborted Second Coming movie (vignettes weren’t completed but the concert footage was). These 2 albums are too important on their own to just mash them up as a single release.

Maybe cuz the two albums were put together on a special cassette release back in the day lol
But, yeah, they should be seperated as all other eras should also be
(black album, Lovesexy *cough, cough*)

Welcome to "the org", nayroo2002… life, it ain't real funky unless it's got that pop

lol I remember that,lol

but yeah,I agree. Those two albums (Dirty Mind and Controversy) both deserve their own separate SDEs.The estate has this annoying habit of only focusing on the big selling albums.Dirty Mind wasn't a massive seller in 1980,but that album is extremely important, for a number of reasons.

And with Controversy, they could include the footage from The Second Coming concert movie and make it a big, impressive SDE.
