I Would Die 4 U on new trailer for Project Hail Mary The final trailer for the Ryan Gosling film features the Prince track. Good to see Prince in pop culture in 2026 in a high profile film. [Edited 2/8/26 20:40pm]

Well, that explans why the estate has put up another generic (and visually incorrect) visualizer of "I Would Die 4 U." Every day when I awake, the greatest of joys is mine: that of being ME.

Can I say, a reworked fucked-up very thin version of again a milked Purple Rain song? (Ha By the way, wasn't this movie already done with Adam Sandler iicc? I like it! Suits the vibe of the trailer.
I think that Hollywood does not dare to use Darling Nikki in a major commercial film

Well, I'll better calm down. At least P's legacy is sometimes somehow out there.

Nice that they're getting his music out there. I'm interested to see if a new version of the song gets released! Or could this only be used for the trailer, like Rush was used in the Ready Player One trailer!?

Yeah, it's an odd choice for a song, although I'm not sure hearing about "every other flick of the pink plush" in a film about a guy meeting an alien, would be the right vibe either!

I saw the trailer last night and was really happy with the inclusion of the song! It seems to be contextually correct in my opinion and not too gratuitous, I think Prince would've been Ok with it.Somebody in the estate seems to be doing a good job licensing these songs to film and television. (The old grouch in me thinks that whoever it is making these decisions better watch their back; they may be undermining the Estate's reputation for dopey tone deaf decision making I agree with some of the comments here about sort of secretly wishing it wasn't another Purple Rain track because Prince's legacy is so much more, but maybe it could be another easy entry point for newer ears to explore the catalogue. I'm being a bit stingy "old fella" about this though, Purple Rain was my major entry point to Prince and that turned into a lifelong love of his music.
