Prince’s Christopher Tracy, Willem Dafoe’s Bobby Peru An obscenely uncharitable comparison, but rewatching David Lynch’s Wild at Heart in cinema the other week I was struck by a certain likeness in the two performances. Sure, Bobby Peru is a wretch of a chatacter, but he shares Tracy’s arrogance, he teases out his words as though there’s some (possibly darker) flirtatious implication in everything he says, saunters round like a bantom-cock. Sure, one of those performances is infinitely better and Prince would never take on such a character, but it did have me wondering for a moment ‘what if Prince had played Bobby Peru?’. Who knows, maybe Prince would have jumped the oppertunity, we know he loved Eraserhead. Hundalasiliah!

Hmm I’ve said it before. I think P could have played many character roles as he was a natural character himself. I don’t know if he could’ve been Bobby P without it being unintentionally funny but seeing how most of Lynch’s characters were, maybe it could’ve worked! I think he would have been a better fit for Muholland drive tho.
