[Snip - luv4u]

I apologize for having you caught in the line of fire of my inflammatory rants.

I'm reading Duane Tudahls's Parade Sessions these days, I'm half fascinated and half furious, this is such a gigantic waste. For all his asshole attitude and behaviours, Prince's Work remains historical from any perspective. On a human level, his are gifts that keep and keep on giving.
I think we all know how much our spirits can sometimes be lifted to higher grounds with just a single rehearsal.

I can't stand the dichotomy between the cultural relevance and importance of Prince's most creative era, which reaches beyond fandom and is crucial to popular music history at large, and a beaten-to-death commercial placement, which probably happened by choice of the director of the show, certainly not because of McMillions.

These thieves in the temple are making me bang my head against the walls.
I mean, if at the very least they would steal something! Nah, they're just letting everything rot.
They shit a nonsensical AI reel ("Pop Life") and call it a day.

I truly feel rage against this scandalous waste. Time is passing and SKipper is kinda slipping into irrelevance, or worse, is getting petrified into a one-hit wonder in the public consciousness, and it makes me sick.

I would love to make my peace with it, but the emotions and the experiences stay very much alive within me, I'm mad because the mishandling of the situation stands in the way of a proper passing of the torch to the new generation, and Lawd knows how much the kids spirits would benefit from being exposed to truly exciting music, at a time when pop is falling day after day into an abyssal shithole (Sora and the such).

You know me by now, I'm the passionate one, and it makes me difficult to mince words or to avoid grabbing a flamethrower and set the whole roof on fire.

Again, sorry about stray bullets.

Just don't call me Nancy.
Or Shirley.

Do you really find this to be the case, though? His official discography is (mostly) available. It's there for anyone to discover. If someone's curious enough about music, they can discover Prince at any time. He won't be forgotten any time soon. Of course, as fans of his work, we'd prefer his music to be way more present "everywhere" (but what does that even mean nowadays?), discussed, etc.

Man over the last few decades there wer e more than plenty fans (I would almost say the majority) who wanted Prince and his music to stay 'hidden' and his music not being used in any medium whatsoever, so as to not 'taint' it by it being 'everywhere". I guess those fans won now and are the happiest and Londell loves them.

I guess there's room for some nuance here. I can't see any positive side to having "1999" and "Kiss" regularly used in ads. Now or 30 years ago.

What I meant is that, as fans, we'd prefer the rest of the world to be a little more excited about Prince's music, sharing a bit more of our enthusiasm, etc. I've never felt that Prince should have been my "secret, hidden treasure" or something.

I don't really care about Stranger Things one way or another, but I would maybe be a bit more excited if "Joy In Repetition" or "Strange But True" were used instead of PR and WDC.

“Purple Rain” landed at #30 in the latest Hot 100. Great to see it still charting!
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

My point exactly.

It's nearly impossible to explain or describe the vastity of his musical reach, and the array of feelings you can get from his Work, especially when attention spans are reaching goldsifh levels.

But at least put a conscious effort to try, instead of rehashing for the umpteenth time Purple Rain until we all feel nauseous about it.

I think we all experienced a friend to whom we played some crazy inventive tune of his, and they go either "That was Prince?" or "I didn't know he could do that". And that's what he was about, right?

They have to internalize that Prince is an artist for curious people who like their intellect being challenged.

Lawd, I'm sounding like an MBA Marketing Dork having to explain about niches and consumer profiles.
Damn, how dumb they are.

Like when "The Love Me Make" was in the series finale of We Are Who We Are. That was glorious.

For those who thought the renewed interest in Prince would be a flash in the pan, Purple Rain has just spent its third week inside the UK Top 20, at #15. I find that pretty remarkable.

Or EndorphinMachine in a CSI episode and I Wanna Be Your LOver in Teh Sopranos. I don't understand why people would get annoyed by Prince's music being played on TV, kind of weird when we grew up with MTV.

Or, again, 17 Days (Piano & A Microphone version) and Musicology in the movie Queer.

Do you watch the show? It's set in the 80s. Season five is set in 1987. No one's pulling out material from almost 2000 for it.

Also, it's not just that the songs were used, it's that a character used the album playing as a timer. The closer the needle got to the end of "Purple Rain," it would eventually touch a charge set on the center of the record, and ignite a bomb. The album literally gave them X amount of time.

While you may love side B on Parade or something from SOTT, it doesn't have the broader appeal of the music they used.

This. It was absolutely the appropriate music to pick.

.

I chanced upon a Gen Z YouTuber who reacts to music/music videos. He recently discovered Prince through Stranger Things and was watching the When Doves Cry video. He had read up on Prince since Stranger Things, couldn't believe that he had known so little about him while knowing a lot of MJ's music. was genuinely curious and looking forward to discovering the back catalogue. The video has had 50k views, which can presume are primarily people of a similar age.

.

These are the ripple effects this music placement will have.

And if fans or whoever really care about Prince music, and want it to live on 100 years from now, it's moments like this that help that. There are many ways; this is just one.

That part. Every one thinks they know what's best for Prince's music. And sometimes, there are great ideas that the estate should take a nod from. It's still business, no matter how it benefits the hardcore fanbase. That's what the fanbase doesn't understand.

I hear what you’re saying, but let’s be real: in marketing terms, Purple Rain is the Estate’s cash cow.

The deep cuts are fan‑freakin’-tastic, no argument there, but they don't have the same reach, high cash etc. as PR when it comes to big commercial tie‑ins like movies and series.

Those tracks are way better suited for smaller, non‑commercial films or series where the vibe matters more than mass appeal.

Prince's music will live on, just like Mozart's music lives on.

The fact that people are discovering "Purple Rain" and "When Doves Cry" for the first time in 2025-26 is not a bad thing per se.

What we're saying is that honoring Prince's legacy entails so much more. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good. But at the same time, the least we can say is that the Estate is not very ambitious.

Strangely (or is it?) the Prince songs don’t appear on the Season 5 soundtrack to go with the series

The tracks are at top (2nd and 3rd) on the official Stranger Things playlist, which is key.
