Instrument used during the Birthday Show Rehearsal?? At 37:55 there is a weird sound playing before he plays the riff to Something In The Water, what is it? I love the sound I want to recreate it at home, I'm guessing it's a OB-8 or Yamaha DX-7 preset but I'm totally in the dark, any help would be greatly appreciated!.

A historical moment in sound. It's Brownmark stepping accidentally on Wendy's toes, reproducing a short scream, while she hits a wrong string. Plus an exactly same-time-sneeze by Bobby hitting one of his drum mics, and incidentally Prince slipping with his tight little butt on all his guitar pedals at the same time, during a sliding split. Not to be found on any OB-8, DX-7 nor Windows 8, or in any DIY. Though, you can find it as a sample amongst the 700 samples on one of the 7 CD New Funk Sample Series, on a hidden 69 samples CD-8, titled 'Does Not Compute'. Sorry, I have no idea. But I'm gonna check out that sound. [Edited 11/29/25 6:02am] "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts." Do you mean the synthy lead line at the very start after Prince counts in the band? It's just Fink on the Oberheim doing a sort of vibey patch, it's not a preset so you'd need to know the synth to recreate it.

Yes that's correct, it also appears in the actual recording of the show at first avenue at 43:54

Sounds great, nice and clear there. Yeah I think ignore the metallic "bed" which sounds like a pitched down tom sample running through heavy plate reverb, but the higher pitch instrument sounds fairly easy to recreate using an Oberheim or vst version if you have one. I'd aim for a sort of glassy sounding staccato vibe sound, a bit detuned with a fast vibrato.
