I don't really like either song all that much but I have to go with The Most Beautiful Girl In The World.

My blood sugar spiked just thinking of these 2 songs but I'd go with Friend Lover Sister Mother Wife. It's saccharine-sweet but not unbearably so. Both songs are right next to the line for me but TMBGITW just crosses it.

I love Princes slow jams. He could write and perform one heck of a ballad. The really soppy ones. And the sexy ones ! I miss thinking there isn’t a new Prince ballad around the corner anymore.

The Gold Experience version of "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World," by far. Every day when I awake, the greatest of joys is mine: that of being ME.

No need to battle say I--it all just lays in the groove

Is the most beautiful girl in the world even slow?

fair question! It's sort of not really a slow jam. kind of mid-tempo. But somehow I feel that it still comes off as a ballad.

No, not really. Neither of these songs are what I would put in the slow jam category. For that I would point to Do Me Baby, Scandalous, The Beautiful Ones, Insatiable and the like.

I just really heard Friend, Lover the other day and it made me cry. What a song. I've really, really overlooked his post 80s material.

TMBGITW It may be mainstream but it has an aura. Starrfighter

That version has never had much love compared to the single. I always liked it, but there's something about the production of the single that gives it more mainstream appeal.

The EP/4:37 version is the ultimate version, for me. The first version I heard (single/4:07) is missing an important part of the song (i.e. the end).

Almost everything on Emancipation suffers from wretched production. FLSMW is not among the exceptions. So it’s the other one by default. (Well, and because it’s a better song.) I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.
