Glenn Parsons discusses Sign o the Times hand lettering

Glenn was commissioned by Laura LiPuma for this iconic lettering, as well as for several other Prince projects before and after.

He’s been pretty silent on it for a while but now sharing a bit more via LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/...=copy_link" target="_blank"> https://www.linkedin.com/...=copy_link

Includes some nice scans of the original lettering.

Most of my handwriting is actually based off this font!
I always thought it was Laura, but am shocked that the real credit to Glenn was never given eek
Graphic Design is so cut-throat!!!

In high school and for years after, I signed my name in the Purple Rain (mistral) font. I was just talking to the nurses about it a few weeks ago (during my bone marrow transplant excursion). I talked about how I would drop the N in my first name, then continue with "est." Just like the N drop in Prince and at the end of Rain.

It was a blend of the title font and mistral.

Every day when I awake, the greatest of joys is mine: that of being ME.

Seems it was Kurt Knopp who did the lettering for Lovesexy
