Around The World In A Day - Dolby Atmos

https://tidal.com/browse/.../475335831

My initial thoughts, listening on earphones:
Around The World In A Day - Vocals quite dry, kick drum sounding very thick. Overall, I think the mix could have been balanced a bit better, but no significant complaints.
Paisley Park - Again, quite heavy drums and the vocals could be a bit louder (although the lead also sounds a bit distorted at times), but some of the synths are more noticeable in this mix.
Condition of The Heart - You can hear hiss (and some buzzing) cut in and out as instruments are muted and unmuted - this also happens a bit on Purple Rain Atmos mix, which is quite annoying. Again, you can hear some more of the synths in this mix, which is cool. The double-tracked vocal of "got a condition of the heart" at the end is much louder than on the original.
Raspberry Beret - The drums and vocals sound quite hollow on here, and the guitars are way too quiet. On the plus side, the strings sound nice and the bass is pumping.
Tamborine - Ok, this sounds awesome! The drums are powerful, the bass is right where it should be, and the vocals have great separation. I think I like this song now.
America - Like the 12" mix that was released, this also sounds awesome. Everything is perfectly balanced, and the vocals have fantastic clarity. Like on the album, the mix switches to mono at the end.
Pop Life - The instrumental is absolutely perfect - but the vocal delay in the left channel seems slightly off?
The Ladder - This is a bummer. The strings start off powerful, and the song's introduction doesn't disappoint. But then Eddie M's sax is way too quiet throughout most of the song, and the reverb on the lead vocal during the chorus is laid on too thick.
Temptation - Chris obviously had a bit of fun with this track - and it pays off. It's a fun mix, maximising the space, and everything is balanced well.

What do you think? I'm especially curious to hear how it's perceived on a surround sound set-up.

I had the pleasure to hear the Atmos mix a month ago on my setup and did a small review.
My favorite by far on it is Tamborine (the guy who shared the set already said this was the highlight and I fully agree)
Over all the tracks it's a more consistent and a great listen on a full setup and I liked it better than the previous atmos albums. Its teh best of the bunch.
Hearing some cool things but also some distracting thing because of teh Atmos mix, but it's nice novelty thing. This morning I got the regular remaster CD and I like it alot, it's clearer than teh original vinyl but not much, the original vinyl still holds up.

Just because we're all Prince fans and particular about stuff - that's not a delay. It's two different takes on the lead vocal, one offset from the other. Which I found quite interesting when I found out. It was a clever way to do things, not that artists aren't double tracking lead vocals anyway.

So - is the lead vocals in the center channel? James has a habit of throwing the lead vocal in a random ass right or left back channel, rather than in the center, while sometimes leaving other channels empty. He's not a good mixer, IMO.

I'm not surprised to hear one of them is off in some fashion. It's like that guy has blinders on while doing the mixing.

I don't own a home Dolby Atmos set up. I only have me earphones. But that said, I do enjoy these mixes. Its like having an alternate mix of an album. It doesn't beat the original stereo mix. At least not on earphones.

I didn't expect to care for Temptation.
Loved Tamborine!
I skipped Condition of the heart
ATWIAD, Paisley Park,The ladder!
Over all its pretty cool,
Cant believe my purple psychedelic pimp slap pimp2

And I descend from grace, In arms of undertow
I will take my place, In the great below

These are some quick comments I was texting to a friend last night while listening on me headphones.

"'Condition of the Heart' always felt hissy and low, but this feels lush and full. The bass is up a tad, which gives it some heft, but doesn’t blow it out.
The first two songs sound good, too, title track moreso.

I always thought 'Raspberry' sounded like it was produced on parchment paper. The Linn and the distortion on it (through guitar pedals I presume) is clearer. Subtle ,but noticeable, to me.

WHOA. 'Tamborine!' Ohmygod here it is…funkiest thing in life I’ve ever se-heenn. That rubbery bass is way more distinguishable. Doesn’t sound muddy.

I think it has a proper groove about it.

'America' thumps.
Been anxious to hear 'Pop Life.' On it now.

The first part of 'Temptation' is good. I still dread that talky shit at the end.
'Pop Life' was a treat. Really love that.

ATWIAD’s problem was just simple lack of clarity, IMO. Bass or drums or things were just …faint? Not well defined. Here, they are, just enough."

Overall, I dug it. I'd stayed away from the album for months in anticipation of giving it a fresh listen with the remaster. I did have CD rips in my Music app, so I quickly compared a couple. The remaster sounds much, much better.
