17 days extended version appreciation post. How awesome is this version wow. I never cared for the song that much until I heard this version recently, it's the 11 minute one.

I have always loved the song. This version made tears form in my eyes. It's a mystery as to why it wasn't on PR Deluxe.

Must admit, hearing it go past the usual part where it fades out for the first time was a moment

The 7 minute is the real version. The 11 minute is fan-made.

When this leaked I was puzzled: why did Prince choose to put the edit on the 12'' as well since there was room for a longer cut. Obviously because, for some reason, he must have thought the long version wasn't that good. And that certainly was his prerogative as an artist, but as a fan, it was a big WTF?! Yeah, and that's why I've always been like, fuck those people ruining artists' legacies by putting fan edits online. Usual response: "it don't matter, people will know what's real and what's not". And as always, given we're on a hardcore Prince fanboard and this has happened countless times: no, they won't A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Like mentioned by someone else before; Prince's extended versions were actually the original versions, that were edited to what we know as an original release. We barely ever get to hear the 'original' version as recorded in the first place, except when it is called 'extended' or whatever longer v ersion name. And then again... sometimes even that is edited... "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts." I love 17 Days, so I'm looking forward to getting my hands on and hearing the 7 min version - if I don't already have it tucked away somewhere.

. Nice work for the site! BTW I take a look and in 1999 the "U'r still the one" on Love4oneanother, it seems me to remember it was a sample, not the entire stream. I have not the original realplay file, so I can be wrong.

Really ? It's not that different from the 7 minute version though. Just longer.

Not quite the case. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Thanks a lot And yeah, figuring out a system and explaining it on the front page was quite the headache [Edited 9/24/25 22:53pm] A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I do have the file and it's the whole song, which (I just checked for good measure) is corroborated by Princevault. That said, a project of this scope is bond to contain mistakes. Many have been corrected over the years thanks to contributors like you, so please always feel free to let me know if you think you spotted an error. Such contributions are much welcome A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

. Thnak you for the answer! Now, I don't want to dwell on this, because it's such an insignificant piece of information, but I checked out the Prince blog I was running at the time. And on January 26th, I noted that two new samples, "U'r Still the One" and "Madrid 2 Chicago," were added to Prince's official website, with a brief description of each. If either of them had been a full song, I would have definitely specified that. I think the file you have is the one posted online a few years later on the new website. Princevault is confusing the two releases, IMHO.

Maybe the ad libs (e.g. Brenda’s bits) were taken off rather than added! There may or may not be something coming!

I'm still appreciative of the seven min version that leaked

There's no insignificant piece of information with this project, I really aim for accuracy as much as possible, so your feedback is truly useful. I just looked for more information in the Vault book, Uptown mag, Dawnation (the latter was a very useful source of info regarding this era's online streams and releases) and Google, but to no avail. That said, it makes perfect sense that U're Still The One would be a snippet since M2C was. I just asked a fan I know who maintained detailed logs on those streams and recently sent me lots of corrections I still have to implement, let's see what they reply. I'll let you know. I would also be quite interested in a link for your blog (there may be other useful info there if you did it in real time And the question remains: if it was a snippet, what was the date for the whole song's stream, then (which, I suppose, would have taken place on NPGLtdOnline)?

That could also be the case - personally, I find the leaked version to be too repetitious. Where as the mix without the vocal in the second half leet the instruments breathe more. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

. Thank you, let me know. You can see something of my old blog called O)+>? in waybackmachine, i leave you a link to a random page, you can play with internal links or waybackmachine but you have to use a online translator too because it was writtine in italian language. [Edited 9/27/25 7:02am]

It's fair to assume that they heard the version they had in the vault and thought it was incomplete. But, they also had a copy of the full Beautiful Ones, versions of Traffic Jam and a couple of unreleased songs. But they chose not to use that stuff, just like how they decided not to include another concert (as was in the original press release), which was likely the 84 First Avenue show. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Thanks a lot. This may come handy when I factcheck some dates for the early Internet era. My contact, who kept detailed logs of those days, tells me that as far as their notes say, it was always the whole song. So I have 2 sources saying full song, one saying snippet. Of course, yours was contemporary, which gives it more weigth, but do you think it's possible you may have mistyped at the time? In doubt and for the sake of accuracy, I did add a mention of your comment and the discrepency in the entry. It's possible that other people will be able to provide more information and, as with many little uncertainties I took note of on the website, I may also end-up finding a new source while turning the Internet upside down.
