Yes, keep hoping, don't learn a lesson from this.

Anyone wanna take bets on the amount of unreleased tracks we'll get between now and the next Celebration?

With hindsight, we had no reason to expect something big in 2025.

2023 had been announced as a big year by Charles Spicer and we got the D&P deluxe.

2024, no big year.

2025, no big year either.

I think the 'big year' is the clue telling us something new from the vault is going to be released.

Fingers crossed 2026 will be announced as a BIG YEAR!

Charles Spicer has posted a story on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/stories/1669298699799238/UzpfSVNDOjEyMTkyMDQ5MTAyNjc1NTc=/?bucket_count=9&source=story_tray) with background music which could be a sample of the remaster of the track Around the world in a day.

I don't know. I don't really trust the estate anymore, so my expectations are low. I fear we might only get a Parade Deluxe next year without any vault tracks.

I'm stating fact.

That edit of a previous post you posted, is a mispresentation, by having me name saying mattosgood said:

Yes, you were stating the fact that ATWIAD would be a SDE. lol

As for the Estate losing money on SDEs, I'm not gonna point you to any source to run with on the Purple Stream. I don't follow that page. lol

There's way too many fans out there trying to make a name for themselves by reporting on Prince and they're all looking for a bone. confused

Teh SDEs didn't sell well.
Tehy should have released the D&P SDE in batches over 6 months or a year.

- The album + ALL singles remastered for $30
- Outtakes set for $30
- Music Video set + concert video and audio for $30

Then it would reach more fans with them being cheaper than that SDE set where the track are just wasted on because it's too expensive.

Hopefully this is the plan for ATWIAD (highly doubtful but if the estate is reading this, maybe this is a good release plan or strategy and I'm, willing to bet you would get alot of good will from the fans)

When saying the SDE didn’t sell well, I assume that is the SOTT one released during Covid and the D&P one that some think is lacklustre? The PR deluxe sold alright didn’t it, and the 1999 one sold out (possibly due to limited numbers)?

But did the Prince store merch with these releases do better, e.g. did they sell tonnes of bedsheets, towels, T-shirts and the like? Or are they filling up warehouse space too?
There may or may not be something coming!

I've heard that the reason the Estate keeps producing all that merchandise is because they earn more money off that than on the latest SDE releases. neutral

Every record store I've been in the last year still has SOTT and D&P SDE sets in there store.
1999 SDE only sold out becuase of the limited quantities pressed and PR Deluxe is also still available.
Chopping these SDEs up into smaller and cheaper sets could have reached more buyers and would have kept the momentum goimng for the sets. NOw D&P SDE was released adn a month later nobody cared anymore and were already speculatimng about a potential new SDE. all those unreleased tracks wasted on a too expensive boxset.

You might have a valid point, Joris, but let's not forget the arguably questionable interest of the D&P Vault tracks.

I would argue that one month after any release, "nobody cares anymore". We have lives. We have hundreds of Prince bootlegs, if not more. We listen to other musicians.

I haven't listened to the SOTT SDE outtakes in a long time and they're probably among the best outtakes we're going to get.

Quality aside. the smae thing happened with 1999 SDE and SOTT SDE, a month after the release ev erybody moved on and now there are piles of SOTT SDE just taking up space at record stores and are too expensive to buy

Sure, but that moentum could keep going if the SDE was split up into 3 pieces released in 6 months (every 2 months a set) then the momentum would have lasted 6 months instead of 1 with a SDE.
I think the sets would have been appreciated also more, plus we would have gotten ALL singles in the case of D&P SDE instead of only a selection

I think they should pick items from the list of unreleased albums and singles on The Chronological Prince Recordings Index. biggrin Like, release the 1988 Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic album, the 1981 Jamie Starr album, the 1994 The (Days Of) Wild Experience, the 1993 Come album or Glam Slam Ulysses soundtrack, the 1993 The Dawn album, the 1993/94 Gold Experience, the 1987 Funk Bible, the 1984 Dance Electric album, the 1985 Roadhouse Garden album etcetera... There's plenty to pick from. biggrin

Yes, it would be a way better approach: releasing more stuff overall, but less material at a time and over a longer period of time. Release physical items for collectors from time to time, and digital collections more regularly for the rest of us. That's what we've been saying for years, I guess.

Actually splitting up the super deluxe sets into smaller packages is a great idea...its much easier to buy 3 $100 releases over a few months than one big $300 purchase at one time...easier to explain to the wife too!

I dont think we'd be too worried about this ATWIAD release if we hadn't been waiting for 2 years for something.... regular releases and a heads up from the estate is what has been missing imho... but yeah, more varied releases regularly is what I want.... dvds/blurays, live stuff/aftershows and soundchecks/ studio stuff.... if they dont start releasing more they might as well give up because nobody will care

Exactly. Everybody would be happy (or at least neutral) if this ATWIAD release was released exactly as it's going to be released, but with, say, one previously unreleased track a week on YouTube, etc. since the Celebration, plus an announcement for an archival release at the end of the year, and maybe a few hints at what's going to happen in 2026.

You're deflecting now...

All I reported what was said or not said at this year's Celebration is all.

I don't speak for The Purple Stream - friends yes but I haven't been involved in what TPS posts for over a year now.
