Dr. Fink 🩺 🎹 Definitely a legendary part of the Revolution- Dr. Fink had amazing talent! Any particular moments of his that stand out to you? I think the keyboarding on Automatic is awesome and honestly the whole 1999 album is where I see a lot of his work really stand out-
How did Prince come up with Dr. Fink? And how did they meet?

Matt Fink is great. He recorded a really amazing solo on one of my songs and he nailed it. He’s a really nice guy, too.

Interesting, I've never thought he was that good. Graycap23 was ME!

Fink isn't on Automatic or any of the 1999 album. All keyboards were played by Prince. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

I always thought that Matt was very influential: he got deserved publishing credits on Dirty Mind particularly, and can imagine that he must have been great to jam with during the controversy and 1999 period.

Dr. Fink--with regards to earlier comments of not having been recorded on some of the albums, did at least play the parts that Prince composed as part of his touring responsibilities. > Fink came up with many improvisational parts to add to the live show and also as a co-composer contributor to songs with The Revolution--credited on the songs as such. Or take for instance the synth keys to "Head"--I think that was all Dr. Fink. Reportedly the improv jamming in that style was something that Lisa Coleman as the co-keyboardist couldn't do well. > There's that blistering keyboard solo at the end of Anasthesia that to me is most impressive! Fink handled the synth keys on that record and tour. I've always wondered whether that was a sequenced pattern, or something that he could actually execute with fingers-on-keys. If you all know what I'm talking about those notes are really quick! What kind of notes are those, anyway, LOL? I've never seen that keyboard part played live.

Oh--also to the OP--Dr. Fink connected to Prince through Bobby Z. Fink and Z. were friends and Prince connected to Fink through his ole' drummer friend, way back when. [Necessary edit] [Edited 10/14/25 17:26pm]

A while back I watched an interview with Fink. The interviewer was supposedly a knowledgeable Prince fan, but made the same mistake as the OP, mistakenly believing Fink played on Prince's albums. He want album-by-album asking Fink about his contributions, which were next to nothing in most cases. The interview could have been uncomfortable, but Fink was cool about it.

Fink's not playing in the video, he will be miming to the song. Prince played all the instruments on the studio version, The orger formerly known as https://prince.org/profil...nglishGent

OK, peeps--don't take away my Prince cred. card. I actually meant the song Glam Slam, as the one with the blistering synth solo at the end. Aw, man--1 song off in the Lovesexy sequence.
