Definitely a legendary part of the Revolution- Dr. Fink had amazing talent! Any particular moments of his that stand out to you? I think the keyboarding on Automatic is awesome and honestly the whole 1999 album is where I see a lot of his work really stand out-

Fink isn't on Automatic or any of the 1999 album. All keyboards were played by Prince.

I always thought that Matt was very influential: he got deserved publishing credits on Dirty Mind particularly, and can imagine that he must have been great to jam with during the controversy and 1999 period.

Dr. Fink--with regards to earlier comments of not having been recorded on some of the albums, did at least play the parts that Prince composed as part of his touring responsibilities.

Fink came up with many improvisational parts to add to the live show and also as a co-composer contributor to songs with The Revolution--credited on the songs as such. Oh--also to the OP--Dr. Fink connected to Prince through Bobby Z.

Fink and Z. were friends and Prince connected to Fink through his ole' drummer friend, way back when.

Why do you think Prince came with up his name? Because no one else has a thought in their head? C'mon.

Fink used to wear a prisoner outfit early on, but a guy in Rick James' band did the same think. Prince asked Fink, "you got anything else?" He said, "I could wear some surgical scrubs." And voila - Dr. Fink was born.

Fink isn't on 1999. It's a solo project for the most part. He's not even credited with handclaps and backing vocals on "DMSR" (in contrast, his engineer Peggy Mac is).

A while back I watched an interview with Fink. The interviewer was supposedly a knowledgeable Prince fan, but made the same mistake as the OP, mistakenly believing Fink played on Prince's albums. He want album-by-album asking Fink about his contributions, which were next to nothing in most cases. The interview could have been uncomfortable, but Fink was cool about it.

With that said, Fink does pla ykeys on the songs Dirty Mind, Head, Jack U Off, Let's Go Crazy, as well as the three live tracks from Purple Rain.

Fink's not playing in the video, he will be miming to the song. Prince played all the instruments on the studio version,
