prince sure loved boasting about himself at weird moments Funny how in a song like another lover hold in yo head, which is ostensibly a woman left me poor me song he manages to squeeze in a line about no one can do the do like him
Scandalous is a sort of weird bragging-enticement seduction song
(Good things come to those who wait... Feel what you've been dying for etc)
In his remake of another love, he adds that whole verse at the end with the line 'But I'm the greatest living soul U'll ever know'
Yeah it's kind of that angry 'youll miss me!' kind of angry outburst thing ppl often say in breakups but he was just good at often making it all about him lol [Edited 7/2/25 10:13am]

"Does he have an ass like mine ?" lol.
He sure liked to brag...but either way, his exes do miss him and most aren't over him so he wasn't wrong. [Edited 7/2/25 14:24pm] |

Haha yeah, Prince definitely had a way of turning even heartbreak into a flex, like his ego couldn’t help but sneak in, even in the saddest moments. But honestly, it’s part of what made him so uniquely magnetic, the mix of vulnerability and pure confidence was just so him. |

Funny??
In my youth, that was pretty much my main argument every time a girl wanted to dump me, and even when they did leave in the end, at least they were like grumbling "yeah, aw'igh, true, but...", and I could at least hold on to this to save face
So no, not funny at all, more like "do what you gotta do to survive"

Agreed.
Strange But True might be the best (and most beautiful) example of it. Even if it was him who left Mayte, it seems he still have to justify his decision to himself (admitting the song is about Mayte, which of course we can't know for sure, but given the chronology it sounds likely all the break-up songs on that album are more or less inspired by that relationship). |

"The ones who love me without condition" and years later we have the song "She loves me for me." (for Manuela)
It seems like he struggled to find a woman who loved him for him and that's sad |

Strangely enough, I never understood "Strange But True" as referring to a person,
but rather to his fame and the music business.
For me, it was always an early "Everlasting Now," so to speak.
But what do I know...
