Looks like the estate is about to release something: an acoustic guitar

https://www.instagram.com...m8K-dJnie/

.

You may recognize this purple Taylor 612ce acoustic guitar from Prince’s Musicology tour. This guitar was crafted with a unique purple color and has not been available for purchase since 2011. This iconic guitar will be available for purchase again as a Prince Signature guitar exclusively at Paisley Park and is handcrafted from Taylor Guitars.

.

CELEBRATION 2025 guests will have first access to obtain one of these guitars for their personal collection.

.

This Prince Signature guitar fully represents the original with the addition of the love symbol on the front and back of the headstock in a matching inlay color.

I wonder if this is slightly my fault smile

I had Taylor custom make a couple of these last year, as a BTO Grand Concert in purple, with the exact specs of Prince's ones as told to me by the original luthiers at Taylor about 10 years ago. They were pretty high end guitars, beautifully made, and visually identical to the originals (if not maybe slightly better, with a more modern piezo preamp system and bracing). After I got mine, the same retailer took some more orders for the same spec (word got around I guess, and used my spec as a guide) so I wonder if that led to Taylor having a conversation with the estate about a signature model in small numbers. Not sure I love the idea of symbol branding though, ick!

I'm actually surprised that the estate hasn't done more of these kinds of deals, for more famous Prince guitars. Let's face it, not THAT many people would recognise this guitar compared to a cloud or auerswald symbol guitar.

ok, now comment:
Prince's guitars are definately iconic and one-of-a-kind, just like him.
BUT!
Above all that, the music should still be the highest priority!

All that said from me, i would definately buy a "one-eyed" Warwick through-neck, 4-string Thumb-bass if it was ever offered lol

At this point, it almost feels like they're doing it on purpose. It's a weird business strategy.

Last thing I bought was D&P SDE two years sgo. Next thing I buy will be unreleased music or the next SDE.

People need to stop buying this bullshit and bedsheets. The longer people buy, the longer it'll be until they're forced to release music.

For a 6 series, I'd guess just under $4k, in this case probably a bit more. Assuming they didn't cheap out on the specs, it's a sitka spruce top, curly maple back and sides, maple neck, ebony fretboard and bridge, mother of pearl inlays etc.

Looks like they went for gold coloured tuners, but imho it looks better with chrome as per "The 1 U Wanna C" video, the Webster Hall performance etc. That's also how it looked for the "My Name Is Prince" exhibit. The headstock logo inlay looks like a mistake imho. The few dorky Prince fan guitarists with deep enough pockets for this will want it to look like the real deal, not a cheesy estate tie-in.

And yes I share the viewpoint that I would greatly prefer some new music smile

They're doing it on purpose. They’re not interested in fans like us who want more music cuz we’re not their target.

Looks cool, but will be ludicrously expensive, and the headstock looks goofy. You don't have to slap a symbol or Purple Rain era "Prince" logo on EVERYTHING.

Am I misremembering, or did Prince sell cloud replicas on one of his websites back in the late 90s early 2000s for about $1000/$1500?

He did. Also PP sold a bunch of them back in 2017.

Initially he sold them at concerts, at the merch stand, for cash only.

ill

reading prince news these days always ends up making me feel slightlly ill or sad.

it's no longer about music.

and you know, it wouldn't even be as sad as it is, if there was complete silence on
all fronts, but the things they do communicate seem especially designed to just be
a kick in the teeth.

I'm in the minority here, I'd actually buy one of these if I had the cash as "The Art Of Musicology" was the first ever acoustic Prince performance I watched. Hopefully it's cheaper than a Rusan Cloud.

Around teh musicology days thee was a interview where it was said that Prince's purple Taylor was around $4500, so it will probably be twice as much if it's a Prince Signature one

It won't be.

I had a couple of them custom made recently by Taylor, only far more accurate and without the dumb symbol branding on the headstock. I think it was about 6k.

I'd guess these ones will be cheaper, maybe around 4k.

UNLESS… you are willing to drop 1k (or more) on a VIP ticket for the “Celebration”! Where you will have the privilege to listen to 15-ish unreleased songs (just the one time, no playbacks) over the speakers while the group of people you’re with are talking and carrying on. Not to mention that you MIGHT get only 2 of those songs in a poorly designed USB made to look like a cassette. And! On your way out you can go through the gift shop and get the real meat and potatoes of the estate’s efforts- pillowcases, duvets, mugs, socks, pijamas and refrigerator magnets!
