Roadhouse Garden in ICNTTPOYM from SOTT film

So I only just noticed the Roadhouse Garden riff quote in the SOTT movie performance or ICNTTPOYM. I’m sure it’s well know. But I had to share somewhere…

I think OP is referring to the lead melody around 3:30 in this vid: https://www.youtube.com/w...5Px4jY1TVc

It's a similar melody to the "Roadhouse Garden" hook but I think it's just coincidental and not a direct reference.

I think it's too short and too little to call it a riff quote.

Like bozojones said, my guess also is that it's just coincidal.

Prince's songs are filled with re-use of short picks from his own songs.

Especially with horn arrangements.

"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

It’s identical and a year after he recorded the song. It’s not coincidence.

You're likely right that it's a coincidental similarity rather than a direct reference. Melodies can sometimes bear a resemblance to others without being intentionally linked, especially in the realm of popular music where certain melodic phrases and chord progressions are common.

It's not identical, just similar, and that live performance was three years after "Roadhouse Garden" was written/recorded.
