I used to wear the B side on my 12" of Sign O' The Times OUT! Arguably his funkiest B-side. "Is it from the almond of the walnut? Is they squeezin' it out of the peanut?" - Rick Ross

Check out the NPG Newpower Soul album, some fantastic jams on that one. Also their album "Gold Nigga" has a fantastic track called "Johnny" [Edited 5/11/25 22:24pm]

I think you're pulling their leg. These should be the last things to check out... unless your thinking is that it will only go up from there.

How lucky you are in a way! I remember how exciting it was to absorb Prince's whole catalog when I became a fan in 1989 (technically more like 1990 actually, 1989 was when I got my first album, but I only decided to invest myself in him in the summer of 1990 and it took until about mid-1993 for me to have almost everything he'd done by then — it was pre-Internet!), I can't imagine how vertiginous it must feel in 2025! Agreed. Equally funky IMHO and severely underlooked, as it was a rather confidential release, is the 10 minutes version of Prince's remix of Aretha Franklin and James Brown's Gimme Your Love from 1989. I totally missed that one! Not sure about purchasing, but it seems to be on every streaming service and I also see there was an expended reissue of the album in 2014 with it on it (and the shorter edits that I actually couldn't put my hands on back in the days). Definitely not a rarity anyway. I'm sure even the old CD singles is cheap. I d A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

It's truly brilliant, Prince completely reinvented the (originally rather lame) song with Eric Leeds jamming on it. He certainly did take the job of remixing two of his idols seriously (and I suspect he wanted to impress Brown, or maybe even make a point that he was way funkier than him at this stage). I'd love to hear Eric's recollection of that session but sadly it seems no one ever asked him during interviews. Since I'm a day 1 fan I always flip out when I hear unreleased music I never heard before. Like when I heard the original Coco Boys and Sticky Wicked a few years ago. Recently I heard the original Old Freinds 4 Sale segue perfectly into All My Dreams for the first time without any gaps or volume changes. Even the left and right channels were correct. Also Wendy's verson of Eggplant blew me away. When he turned up the handclaps loud near the end of the song. Dude was a true genius

Y'know--listen to everything and anything of his. There's something for everybody in his catalog. Start with the song titles you find intriguing and please ignore the "song naysayers!" shockadelica86 said:

Seeing Prince perform Hot Thing live in the 2010s blew my mind. That bass, tho'! shockadelica86 said:
