The Fact That Prince Recorded in 1984 Love & Sex…

…AND SAT ON IT FOR DECADES leads me to believe that there are tons of hidden gems still in The Vault. Or in random dusty glove compartments of old cars Prince owned. Or in Paisley Park seat cushions…

The mind reeks that he recorded this song and never revisited it.

Wow… eek

Unpopular opinion. I really don't like that song. Far too shouty. I do however have exactly same sentiment regarding the later track with the same name.

:)

I just wish we had his lead vocals on the Sheila E outtake version. Now that would be amazing to hear.

Completely agree! Would love to here’s Sheila’s version with P’s vocals - if it actually exists

I just watched the 1992 Glam Slam show for the first time tonight and partway through I was thinking how some songs from Love Symbol were played, but songs from the Vault discs were just .... forgotten?? Like Darkside and Alice Through The Looking Glass, all these incredible songs he'd make and just throw away. Or stuff like his mid 00's covers, Le Freak and If U Were A Sailboat. Or the Welcome 2 America tour which had hardly any songs from the album, but it did have Gingerbread Man which .... where even is that song!? I really wish I could ask him questions, like "why did you leave x song off x album but play that other throwaway song live once?" This man truly is a mystery, and I bet there's songs we'll never know about or hear. But at least it's something for the next generations to look forward to.

And before somebody gets up in arms at me, I know Sheila played it, but that was once. It's a drop in the ocean compared to other songs he played but never released, or recorded and never played.

Yup!
Just today i heard a high quality "bootleg" that came up in the mix titled "Jam".
Late 70's?
Is that really all Prince on the drums, keyboard, bass, guitar, synth???
There is absolutely a treasure of unheard music!!!

I love this tune!! Lots and lots of energy there, lots of fun. I do wonder why they didn't title it "Love 'N Sex" to differentiate it from the '86 song. I believe I remember seeing a handwritten PR configuration where it's written as "Love 'N Sex", but crossed out.

Screaming. Panting. Making Noise.

.
Agree 100%. Love&Sex is a brilliant song, it's just in bad need of a great mix. (I don't mean a dance remix of course, but a new mix from the multitracks.) It could be a huge hit.

.
And I also agree that there are indeed tons of hidden gems in the vault. It's funny when people always criticised P for chosing the "wrong" singles, for example, yet the very same people are adamant that he already released most truly great songs and there are very few gems left to be discovered. The first theory would mean he didn't have a clue what would become hits, the later would mean he knew very well what was release-worthy. Kind of a contradiction, isn't it? My opinion is that he didn't know what would become hits so he just made his decisions based on what song fits on a planned release, and when he decided something doesn't fit, it went to the vault regardless of being a great song on its own right.

Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

Please educate the ignorant. there's a version on youtube titled Love and Sex - Prince (Unreleased 1986 Sheila E. vocal). Is this what you are talking about? And looking to hear that version with Prince singing? The guide track? It sounds like there might be a story here that I have not heard. If you don't mind sharing...

No, the song we're talking about is off of the slapped together Purple Rain Deluxe from 2017.
