Will Smith: I spoke to Prince 8 hours before he passed

https://www.stereogum.com...l-me/news/

I don’t even want to say this out loud because it’s a terrible jinx. I met Biggie four hours before he got killed, and I talked to Prince eight hours before he died. I talked to Prince; he called, and he was pitching. He was saying that me, him, and Jay-Z should start an entertainment company, and he said he had talked to Jay and he wanted to do it. We talked that night, and in the morning he was gone. I just — I don’t know what that says about me… I’m like, “Don’t call me, don’t call me!”

Llondel? Will Smith wants to talk to you...

If true, he spoke to him much closer to the end. I’m pretty sure Prince died the night before.

It's part of his name though

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Why would he state something like that all these years after Prince's death?

Is he a fantasist, a dazed trumpist?

Smells like the-not-so-fresh-prince.

Following P's passing, it was published that he spoke to Smith on the phone the night before. I believe it's also in the police reports. What they talked about wasn't known though, until now. Why would Smith make up a false story now?

Maybe to try and stay relevant? But it wouldn't surprise me if a idea like that was thrown up by Prince only to abandon it within a week because he got bored with it and leave JayZ and Willy hanging lol lol

He doesn't need to make up a Prince-story to stay relevant. He is and will remain a megastar, despite the 2022 tantrum, he's busy working and he's got an album coming out soon. Besides, JayZ could confim the story too as something he talked about with P, so I don't see any reason to accuse Smith of lying.

Oh ok. I don't know much about Willy other then he's a pariah for most people it seems. Kevin Spacey is also working but not exactly relevant anymore.

Prince was obviously taking a great interest in what Jay-Z was doing. With, music, tech and clothing. Will was one of the most famous actors in the world, and had a successful past in music.

I'd love to know just what he was pitching, since Jay was already super successful. I'm not entirely sure what he thought he would be able to bring that Jay was already doing. Something in the live space or with Paisley Park? Who knows.

It's surprising to hear Prince contacted Will. Since I always assumed Will was one of the "lollipops" he was referring to in the Crystal Ball liner notes. But I suppose a lot of time passed since then.

Big Willie Style and Willennium were huge back in the day. Prince was already not relevant anymore, when these albums were released.

The 4th Bad Boys movie from 2024 made over 400 million worldwide. Besides, Chris Brown is still popular and he's done a lot worse than Will. Chris has multiple incidents.

And à 5th is in the Can. Making 400 M nowadays on theaters only IS a damn good achievemebt. Now Will Smith could have milked the cow on MIB, ID4 franchises and make dozen of millions $ out of it. He still could.

Don't spread false information. A fifth installment has not even been announced yet, let alone filmed. So I'm not sure what you mean when you say "in the can."

Also, let's not act like Ride Or Die was a top grosser for 2024. It wasn't even in the Top 10 highest grossing films of 2024, domestic or worldwide.

Does he still have a career? Of course. Did he epically f*ck his shit up for a long time? Undoubtedly. He wasn't on top BEFORE the slap. Box office disappointments were his thing BEFORE the slap. The only reason I saw Gemini Man was because my kid wanted to see it.

But all that to say that, no he doesn't need to tell a Prince story to stay "relevant."

You re harsh on the Fresh Prince.
Bad Boy ranked #17 worldwide, that s great for a third sequel of a 30 years movie.
BB4 made 400 M out of a 100 M $ production budget. That ratio is very good and not always shared by the top of the Lost ( Gladiator 2 comes to lind)

It's true, it was in all the police documents that were released. At the time Will wouldn't speak on it, like it was some big damn secret or something.
