I'm glad that it's been settled. Move on to other projects. It's just one of many projects about Prince that won't see the light of day. Hell, Prince canned projects he had days from release. This is nothing new. Keep it moving.

I don’t really care about any documentary, whether it’s from Netflix or the estate. What matters to me is the music, and now that it’s settled, the estate can’t blame Netflix for holding up future releases. I expect at least something to be released this year.

I am sad and disappointed but not entirely surprised it has come to this. What a complete waste of time, effort and money. I wish Primary Wave would grow a spine, and exert some control

You mean moving on to PR part 2, because that's the focus of this year.

Expect part 3 next year and McMillions documentary razz

Exactly. Some people were interested in that documentary, but I guess most of us are interested in the music. So this is as good as it gets. Let's move on.

Personally I have zero interest in a new Estate-approved puff-piece documentary. Why even bother?

The 9 hour Netflix thing will definitely get leaked eventually. That one, I AM interested in.
But I'm a lot more interested in some new music releases.

Yup
Sad it wont be released. But hope it will be leaked.
Im sure the estate could put together a nice puff piece adoring doc, which will hopefully have some interesting footage if nothing else.
But the Netflix film is still something i want to see.

I'm so happy I'm on the verge of crying with joy.

Not a fan of the current Estate but this documentary has been rightfully stopped.

This said, the best news, by far, is that the Vault has been freed. Now, they have no excuse for not releasing Vault material.

i wonder what this "quash" is?
Did they mean "squish"?
"extinquish"
perhaps, "crush"?
i like "squash" biggrin

i, like probably many, will wait for the "bootleg" docu, paralleling our fandom of leaked Prince content!

“The Vault has been freed,” Prince’s account on X declared Thursday.

Londell McMillan, co-manager of Prince Legacy LLC, told the Star Tribune on Thursday that “the vault is free. It’s a big, big win for Prince’s legacy...”

-

So new documentary should be for 2026-2027.

Don't believe much of it anymore.

Next.

Londell is burned.

Spicer is burned.

Londell said they can now start to make new plans again for future releases.

So everything I said about that documentary was eventually right. What a surprise...Logic is the truth.
Now, if the vault was free, why couldn't they announce the next release at the same time? Not enough time to think about it, really ?

Ezra Edelman is really a douche for having made us waste 3 or 4 years with that damned documentary. Not really smart. I guess his career on Netflix is dead Now. If they can't trim 6 hours out of this 9h Doc, it must have been pure bashing all along.

Seems like it. People keep bemoaning the fact that we are going to get an "estate endorsed" doc. This was SUPPOSED to be that, no? Anyways, just get Questlove to do it or Spike. I don't need to "break the mystique or persona" of Prince. I just want a comprehensivve reintroduction of his Royal Badness that's designed for the world and the 21st Century. Is that too much too ask ? smile

I’m wondering if Duane Tudahl might be involved in the new doc. He’s said that his next book won’t be ready for a couple of years, even though it’s a while since his last one. Plus he was at the Grammys, as I think Charles and Londell were. Perhaps he’s not the archivist anymore but is working on the doc.
There may or may not be something coming!

Apparently Edelman began working on the Doc in 2019(!), After the previous director was fired / got away from the project ( which seems to be doomed).
Edelman was led to believe he had complete editorial control. The New estate heard the Doc was all about trash ( someone's interviewed told them the questions were mainly about drugs, psychological and physical abuse against women), and then blocked him the Access to the Vault.

Nevertheless, Edelman still went forward with his trash, among them Prince being abused by one of his uncle.

If that's true, I'm glad he isn't getting his five years back.

EXACTLY!

This was supposed to be an documentary review of his career. It turned into a postmortem crucifixion.

After hearing Michael Bland I'm convinced they were about to R Kelly Prince.

The people who saw the 9hr cut are in the industry. Their analysis of the doc will be tainted by the fact that they HAVE to be Hollywood political about it. Too bad fans with nothing to lose can't see it

Pablos video:Literally called it an EPIC and a MASTERPIECE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Qi6x3QF-v8

part of Quests comments:

The musician and Oscar-winning film-maker Questlove features in the film, and told Weiss after seeing it: “It was a heavy pill to swallow when someone that you put on a pedestal is normal. Everything's here: he's a genius, he's majestical, he's sexual, he's flawed, he's trash, he's divine, he's all those things …
