The 7” singles are totally pointless IMO.

Some of those edits have exclusive mixes.

I think I'm not clear on what is meant by "exclusive mixes", then.

I was thinking about edit versions containing elements not present in the longer version. And when I say "elements", I'm not thinking about "fade-outs". wink

So you mean something like IWD4U, Alphabet st. (reverb at the end), Let's Go Crazy (condensed intro)

Also the single version of Insatiable has a sound in the beginning that's not present on the album version

"My Name Is Prince" actually has a nice 7" version with clever edits and additions.

I understand that's what *you* are interested in. That's a perfectly reasonable preference. But please do not project your opinion onto the majority of Prince's fan base.

Am I wrong to say that Prince fans mainly want unreleased studio material and live performances?
As opposed to, remasters and 7" single edits and shit like that? It didn't seem like a controversial take to me, so I stand by it.

I'd say it's always nice to have everything including 7'' versions, particularly those that only exist on vinyl. I myself won't listen endlessly to 7'' or video edits, even if they sometimes have little extra things as mentioned above, but I'm a completist and I like having them.

Again, not everything may deserve a physical release because it makes packages more expensive and people won't necessarily be willing to spend extra bucks for 4 edits of Purple Rain, 2 slightly different edits of Glam Slam '91, each and every iteration of each Gett Off remix or a whole promo version of Lovesexy with fade outs, so I understand why certain material was omitted from the SDEs so far, but making the additional material available digitally would not cost the Estate much and it would make everyone happy, it's a no brainer.

There's this notion among fans that releases should be competing with each other, so this should not be released in favor of that, but again, whatever isn't deemed worthy of a costly physical package could just be droped online, whether on streaming platforms, Bandcamp or a devoted website/subscripbtion service.

Sadly, the 7' edits version weren't omitted on Prince SDE. That became a real problem when they tend to replace other remixes or extented versions, as in D&P.
Also, these 7' must absolutely be separated from longer versions. Or else when you listen to the tracks in a row, you dont Know what version to skip and it s a pain in the ass.

The most known instance is the Kiss' outro, making thé single version longer than the album's.

Right. It's almost like the "extended version" with a fade out, but it's definitely different. I tend to forget about all those small differences...

"Peach" has an edit to replace "...titties..." with a guitar lick.
Same with "...fucker..." being replaced by instrumental bites on "Count The Days".
