Sold - Sadowsky purple guitar from America video, Parade tour, Duane’s book cover https://bid.juliensauctio...yle-guitar Some interesting details about this guitar, which has just sold at auction for $381,000, e.g. “A 1985 Sadowsky Telecaster style electric guitar, serial #179, in metallic purple finish with floral artwork by Wayne Jarrett.” “In 1984, Roger Sadowsky began building the first of six Telecaster-style instruments…based on the Hohner HG-490 “MadCat”…4 were MadCat replicas…two were floral-themed guitars with artwork done by Wayne Jarrett, one in pink and the other in purple…featured on the cover of Duane Tudahl’s book Prince and the Parade and Sign O' The Times Era Studio Sessions: 1985 and 1986.” I like the tech details and provenance too in the link. There may or may not be something coming!

Thank you for the details. I remember watching the video for America being thoroughly entranced by the whole thing and especially his new guitar. Anything new guitar wise was fascinating to me as he had only previously used the telecaster with the animal print and the white cloud (as far as I knew at the time). I couldn't believe he just threw it on the ground after that angry solo. Little did I know that throwing guitars around would be his habit going forward lol.

PennyPurple said: Who sold it? With a bit of detective work, I think I’ve got a possible answer to that. The auction details mention, “At some point prior to the Lovesexy Tour in 1988, the guitar ended up in the possession of singer and percussionist Sheila E. In a letter addressed to Sheila E. in 1995, Sadowsky confirms that serial #179 is indeed one of several that he made for Prince.” On one of the photos on the auction’s page, there is a photo of the guitar case with an Aer Lingus sticker on it. I found a tweet ( https://x.com/MrEdByrne/s...2850827266 ) from the Irish comedian, Ed Byrne, from 11 Sep 2020, stating, “I believe that the guitar he plays in that video is the one that now hangs on my wall, which is pretty cool.” On the tweet is a photo of it in it’s case and an authentication letter. So I’m thinking that Ed Byrne has sold it. [Edited 11/24/24 14:19pm] There may or may not be something coming!
