why would anyone go see a musical when they don't know anything about the guy?

Well, how many people today know anything about Alexander Hamilton? That didn't stop the Broadway musical about him from being a big hit. It was even filmed and shown on Disney+

I am European (Belgian) and i'm aware that musicals have been getting more attention here only in the last 10 years too. It must be something Anglo-Saxon, which I will never understand. Seen some, and it never pleased me at all. I'm not for screaming or cheesy vocals, framed in magnified clichés I know, it's just me. To me, musicals and funk (in this case) could not be more distant from each other, musically.
