So, how about a spike lee documentary?

I mean, really, from the get go he was the obvious man to take the job.
Now that the whole thing backfired, do you think he can be recruited to do a proper documentary project, one that focuses on the music and not the girlfriends?
Is / was there any discussion about this?
I would trust him much more than i trust the people involved with the current doc.

Even his documentaries for MJ didn't focus on the music.

Bad 25 should have mostly been about MJ's work with John Barnes, Matt Forger and Bill Bottrell. Instead, the talking heads kept banging of about Quincy's brilliance and has banal comments on music videos.

Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Nah, McMillions will deny access to the Vault and will have final approval.

So no respected filmmaker will touch this.

McMillions should film his own doc and shop it around to all the Networks.

disgrunted girlfriends

wendy & lisa being his saviors

why do I even bother replying.

-

And by the way, the documentary isn't backfired, it's in negotiation as we speak.

Possibly this doc will be 'a proper documentary project', so we don't need another.

We all just have to wait.

And documentaries will always be about some talking heads, if not, it will never be one.

Imho after the Netflix debacle, no serious documentarian would go near Prince as a topic.

The estate wants a puff piece, not a documentary.

FFS- Why not release some music that has nothing to do with whatever the contractual obligations the Netflix contract may or may not have - just a thought

If anyone needs proof that Prince fans cannot read, there it is. Complete and utter nonsense, generated by people having inane prejudices and then applying it to things they haven't seen, based on an article they clearly didn't comprehend. All te defend their saint and here Prince, a man WHO SUED HIS OWN FANS.

Spike Lee's documentaries on MJ's albums are fawning and superficial and boring. It is the opposite of what anyone should want in a documentary.

Well if Spike Lee's MJ doc. was superficial & boring then this fits the Estates vision perfectly, isnt't it?

Spike Lee and Prince were friends right? It's probably not a good idea for a documentary to be produced by his friend because you know you're not going to get the full story. Surely the best thing to do would be to find someone who has very little knowledge of Prince so that they can tell the story with no preconceived notions and just be completely and utterly unbiased.

Having said that, I have no interest in this documentary or any other documentary about Prince. Just wanted to throw my two cents in there for what it's worth lol

Because that don't sell enough.

Please, stop this BS! biggrin

.

Everyday minor acts receive DE or even SDE of albums that are long forgotten and/or never moved big selling numbers.

.

For exemple, the first four Soul Asylum album have been re-released with a lot of bonus tracks and they have never ever been blockbusters.

.

The physical market could be a niche of what used to be 25 years ago but is far from being dead.
