At this point, they should just let Netflix release the damn doc, how much worse can things get? At this point I doubt the mainstream public really care whatever scandals the doc will chuck around. Give it enough time it'll all be forgotten anyway.

Especially when all the vault goodness starts getting released again.

I have to admit that I come here at least once a week, I click on the forum button, and I hope. I am filled with expectation. I click on the forum link and I think:

"today is the day, today is finally the day where we get some news about a new SDE. Today is the day when they announce a vault series, or some new cool collection, or a download site for ephemera and oddities! TODAY!"

And so the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain comes and goes. A colored vinyl is available, but... errr... who cares.

I was perfectly happy with the Purple Rain that came out just after Prince died (well, not the horrible remaster), if only because some of those unreleased tracks were real favorites. I didn't mind the quality of a few of them either. Cassette quality sounded fine to me, as I had the old school muddy distorted versions we had to make do with since the 80's.

But WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Nothing really released at all? I've kept myself gloriously stupid about the running of his estate: the players, the family, the legalese, everything. But it feels like these are such EASY decisions to make about an artist's legacy. Don't these people in charge benefit from us buying new product? SO GET IT OUT.

the stupidity, or laziness, or ineptitude is astounding.

ALSO: we, the original fans who bought his vinyl albums WHEN THEY WERE ORIGINALLY RELEASED and dutifully bought the cassettes and then CDs, are not getting any younger. without some big push (like a comprehensive documentary about his life and career) a new young audience won't know who the hell he is in five years. and the rest of us will be gone in the next 20. NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT.

But they don't, and I don't understand why. They have to come here and read all of this. Perhaps there is a big secret giant release coming for the Christmas season, as has happened before. Perhaps! but still no leaks? It is nearly September. Give us something to look forward to!

Um, I think that is about it. Back to posting every few years. Carry on. I enjoy the sniping and pettiness.

XOXO

Couldn't agree more. Feels like the momentum is about to pass. So many obvious releases that could really help establish him as the One artist we all know him as iamong potential new fans that are yet to be released: piano and a mic, the 83 concert from 1st ave. These two combined would show the first, and last time he would perform Purple Rain.

Instead of putting out a big PR release this summer, the estate managed to screw up the 40th anniversary and ruin any excitement among the fans. So what's the point of a PR 2.0 celebration next year when the buzz is gone and nobody will care about PR? It just shows how incompetent the current estate really is.
