John Legend is reportedly performing a tribute to Prince at the Democratic National Convention TONIGHT, 8/21

John Legend did a very good tribute to Earth, Wind, and Fire at their 2019 Kennedy Center Honors. The tribute was a rendition in his own style, to say the least, but that's John Legend for ya! https://www.youtube.com/w...E6AFBKIrow

Let's hope John puts on a great show tonight!

(I'm looking forward to hearing some live Prince music. It's been a minute!) lol

By the way, I know the convention airs on CNN, not sure where else.

Sheila E is performing tonight as well. Not sure she is going to get airtime, but maybe...

Sheila E. and John Legend did Let's Go Crazy at the DNC.

It was weird but fine. It’s not Prince. Their performance wasn’t my thing but I felt the Prince spirit tonight. 💜

Paisley Park is in my 💜

I was underwhelmed when I saw Janelle play/sing Let's Go Crazy in Montreux last July.

Couldn't they choose a song that's a bit less mainstream?

Ok, not the unedited "The War" performance, but something slightly less overplayed. lol

Definitely entertainment for the weak … Time for a change … Don’t brag about what you’re gonna do when you become president because you’re a vice president now and have nothing to show for it. Things that the vice president can do now but hasn’t done anything in the past 3 1/2 years.

Yeah, it was pretty lame to us hard-cores but the place was loving it. I wish they brought in the Revolution instead...they're the ones who do that one right!

Quit whining!
Be glad his music got attention.

If y'all keep complaining, no one will want to perform his music. He will be erased. This wasn't for US. Look at all those younger people in the audience

REMEMBER also that Clinton and Wunfrey each went long over their allotted time so this had to be cut short-- that sets things off time

^^Soul...I agree with you. It was very entertaining. Neilsen ratings said the viewership for the shows were the highest that had been seen in years. Anyone know who the lead guitarist was? I thought it was H.E.R at first.

I don't think that a few people complaing on the Org will prevent musicians from covering Prince's music. wink

Also: even if nobody covers Prince anymore, Prince's music will still exist and it will still be heard by millions of people. Well, at least a couple of songs, anyway.

You're right: this definitely was not for us hardcore fans. The more I think about it, the more I don't know what they could have played in that specific context. I guess I'm just sick and tired of "Purple Rain".

Me too. I've never watched any convention as much as I watched this one. I usually catch a couple speeches that are usually disappointing (Michelle and Barack being the exceptions). The music just complimented the uplifting speeches throughout. I wasnt a big fan of John Legend...but still glad he and Sheila were there representing my fave artist. It is a wonder tho if Prince would've been there. If he was still a practicing JW I am guessing no.

Michelle's speech was my favorite biggrin on Thursday night,TMZ mistakenly reported that Beyonce would be there....lol...I enjoyed Pink's performance,I thought it worked really well with the gun control segment.

I can't get into John Legend. I've tried. Everything just seems so over the top with him, and looks like he's smiling to himself all the time, remembering some inside joke that no one else is in on.

He's like a one-trick pony, but you don't even like the one trick.
