They got the message and will be releasing 27 new jackets, tshirts, woke-bloke musicals, and coffee mugs for $50,000, all proceeds going to Londell...

This is actually the first Dylan release in a while that I feel is appropriately sized - though it should also be noted that this mostly serves as an inexpensive way to avoid letting the 50-year copyright on these lapse, they did the same with 1966 as well.

The last few bootleg series have been much too sparse - the last really large one was BOTT. The TOOM one should've been just as big...

So true. The TOOM edition could've easily been double the size that was released.

I see no reason why the Prince estate can't put together box sets like this Dylan set. They need to wake up and start aggressively releasing stuff!

That's what I'm wondering... omg Does Bob Dylan still have control/input on this kind of stuff?!

It's a barebones set in non-lavish packaging. The upside is that it's comprehensive in content. Sort of like the exact opposite of the Prince releases.

It's a copyright dump in order to maintain the rights.

I hope the Estate stays far away from a release like this.
Some people who heard this release last week said there are way to many edits to the live shows when they compared it to there complete but bootleg recodings of some of the same shows.
The Estate should release complete sets consisting of the soundcheck, support act if they are Prince related, main show and aftershow if available.

Fully agree !

But, to be honest, we still have NOTHING instead, and Bob's fans do.

true, but I would rather have NOTHING (there are more than enough bootlegs to listen to) than whatever this incomplete release is. NOTHING is still better than a turd.
I would rather listen to a complete show in great audence recording than a incomplete/edited soundboard recording.
We have that awful One Nite Alone boxset that I never listen to because the complete audience recordings of the shows they used are much better.

Guys, no hate, but you're losing the plot here. There's little actual evidence to suggest anything was edited out of this Dylan set as opposed to what actually happened which is only wanting to use soundboards (i think) and some material being damaged/missing/not taped. The actual "bootleg series" bob releases have been fairly paltry since 2018, I will grant you that, but this primarily serves as a copyright dump and the fact that they went to almost 30 discs and are still including performances that aren't even taped all the way through leads me to believe there was very little, if any, "edits"

don't let perfect be the enemy of good. sets of this magnitude is where the prince estate needs to go if there's any desire for even half the vault stuff to be released anytime soon. nothing will ever be done the exact way you want it to.

if people are upset about hypothetical "curation" on this dylan set - you're going to lose your mind thinking about the actual, much worse "curation" that has happened on every single prince posthumous release.

I don't k now anyone who has takes the Estate's SDEs seriously. Some even call them samplers lol
If prince SDE ever gets a released and they put the version of 1000 Hugs and Kisses on there that they wanted to put on the Diamond & Love set (incomplete work-in-progress verson with annoying clicktrack in it) than never expect anything like this Dylan release from them.
I don't understand why they can't release a complete 'show day' multidisc boxset (souncheck, support act, main show, aftershow audio and video where available) every two weeks or every month. I bet that can generate a steady income for th em and thy could even expose young people to the one thing Prince did better than anyone else: perform live.

I agree - honestly I don't know if the approach Dylan team takes specifically with live stuff is congruent with how P did tours/shows, and the approach would need to be tweaked. What you propose is a fantastic idea, they could knock out quite a few "sets" ahead of time and release them digitally once a month - would not be that time consuming and seems like a good way to handle interesting shows that aren't "iconic" ones like First Ave, etc.

Wish I could take credit for that idea but it was proposed by someone inside years ago when Prince was still alive but to deaf ears it seems.

I for one don't want 27 live concerts in a super deluxe edition... would never listen to that...

I would much rather have 1-2 well-curated CD-length releases each year, like the Originals release or the 83 PM release - which I could really put on repeat listening

But of course to each his/her own cool
