When Joni Mitchell rejected a Prince song

Check out the link from American Songwriter in regards to the song Emotionl Pump, written for Joni Mitchell by Prince. The info contained in this piece is already know to us die-hards but may not be known by others. It's a newly written article.

Prince could be so left field sometimes. This is a perfect example. Having known and admired Joni for a while, it's such bad judgement offering this particular song to her. Imagine her doing The Grand Progression... Who am I to judge a genius, he knoew what each song meant I suppose but I could never understand this one.

LILpoundCAKE

you know, the bounce of the song is not a million gazillion miles away from the atmosphere
of Big Yellow Taxi. and she did go a little more pop in the 80s anyway.

so I could see how he thought this might be a quirky song for her.

much more than the 'you are my emotional pump' lyric being a problem I kinda thought she
probably felt some kinda way about the "in a way that a mother loves a child" line, eventho
he most likely had no idea at that time what her history was.
