Favorite Song from For You

What's your favorite song from For You and why?

I think In Love is one of the better songs on the album but Soft and Wet is definitely my favorite because it stands out from the other songs on the album and was the first song on this album that caught my attention....

worst thing about for you is that the first 11-12 seconds of 'in love' are only 11-12 seconds. that intro is one of my favourite things on that album. i actually wish prince started just a bit earlier in the 70s as i love hearing him in that era of rnb/soul/disco. that second part to IWBYL for instance, no way would he have done that a few years down the line. while i def want SDEs for every 80s album i am most excited to get SDEs for the first three albums cos its one of my favourite eras of music and well, the first two albums are kinda underrated - i want more like neurotic lovers bedroom.

"Crazy You" is the best ballad.

"Just As Long As We're Together" has the strongest hook.

"My Love is Forever" shows his influence from the Jacksons.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

"Soft and Wet" and "I'm Yours"

Together they show what makes Prince different.

I was listening to Crazy You in the car yesterday and was like... holy SHIT this is just dripping. 19 years old? It's just insane.

There are only 4 songs on the album that I like and Just As Long As We're Together is my favourite of the bunch.

I am torn: I love "My love is forever" until I learned he did not write the lyrics... not that is should matter. But it is still a big stand out...of all his songs.

I m Yours, of course.
I
Prince could have crossed-over day one with this song ( which is a Mike Oldfield rock version of The Exorcist).

Always loved For You. Actually preferred it to the Self Titled follow up. The general consensus is that it was his worst record (certainly up to the early 90's), but I'd put a few under this one.

Brilliant opening song.

Crazy You is one of his very finest ballads.

The funk and guitar of I'm Yours

The energy of Just As Long As We're Together.

However, So Blue & Baby are not good.

"For You" & "Soft & Wet", but rarely listen to any tracks off that album.

For You, a great start (and introduction) from his career. Nice lyrics and vocals.

As a song, ´Soft and Wet´ and ´Just as long as we´re together´ but I really love Prince jamming with himself on ´I ´m yours´. I wish Prince did more songs like that.

Crazy You - I am absolutely in love with this song.

Also love I'm Yours & My Love is Forever.

This album snuck up on me. I wrote it off for years...then I heard the title track on a friends playlist at his house about 10 years ago and kinda forgot how brilliant is. Dusted off the vinyl...its been in pretty much constant rotation since then.

Fantastic ballad. I'd go as far to say his best ballad up to Purple Rain. Gotta Broken Heart is up there too. Think most would go with Do Me Baby, but I wouldn't!

"My Love Is Forever"

I've been playing the entire For You album more frequently over the years. I like the novelty of Prince playing contemporary 70s disco-soul-funk. I'm used to his albums being apart from what the rest of the pack was doing, but this one blended right in.

I remember picking up For You & Prince together in a bargain bin in Woolworths back in the day. And buying both together was a mistake. It took me far longer than it should have to fall in love with them as a result.

I find it hard to pick a favourite, I really enjoy the album as a complete thing.
blah blah blah
