Favorite Song from Around the World in a Day

What's your favorite song from Around the World in A Day?

My favorite is Temptation the guitar solos on this song are the bomb bomb bomb

I love the little outro at the end of this song too where he says:

Oh, silly man, that's not how it works
You have to want her for the right reasons
I do
"You don't, now die!"
No, no
Let me go, let me go
I'm sorry
I'll be good
This time I promise
Love is more important than sex
Now I understand
I have to go now
I don't know when I'll return
Good-bye
Shockadelica, she must be a witch
She got your mind, body, and soul hitched

hard to pick but raspberry beret aside, i always liked paisley park and condition of the heart a lot. the ladder too, but tbh, i like the live rehearsal version best, and seeing him do COTH on the 88 tour is also what made me love that song.

My favorite one too...one of the best iconoclast song ever written by Prince...a pure jewel !

PS> Second one "Condition of the Heart"

It's tough to pick, as it's such a wildly diverse album. I've sometimes wondered if that is why he chose a different font for each song title in the album artwork. They really are all such different flavors. Today, I'll say Condition Of The Heart. There is a rawness and conviction to the way he performs it that is both arresting and a little uncomfortable.

Right? Like it has such diverse instruments ( piano, sax, guitar) that blend so well

I think Condition of the Heart is a close second as is Tambourine

I choose the song that SHOULD have been on this album, She's Always In My Hair. That flange effect on the drums and guitar is incredible.

Great question! Love seeing the wide range of answers.

For me, it's Pop Life. With Condition of the Heart (what a unique and breathtaking song) and Raspberry Beret (pop perfection, and "thunder drowns out what the lightning sees" is perhaps my favorite Prince lyric). But there's just something about the swirling production, vocal echo, and driving beat of Pop Life that feels joyful and nostalgic to me.

Only recently found out he planned to dye his hair blonde for this albums videos but something went wrong and he ended up with the raspberry beret crop instead..but it explained the blonde character on the album artwork. Cant believe i never knew that all these years.

I dont dislike anything on this album btw, though im still not sure which way to take the america lyrics. Love it musically though.

Wow! I didn't know that either, where did he get the idea for the characters on his album cover I wonder?

Either Raspberry Beret or Condition of the Heart. I can't pick.

Pop Life would come in 3rd.

If Prince had included the version of the title track with the bass, that would also be up for consideration as my favorite.

I saw something on Facebook about comments from his hair or wardrobe stylist from this period.
But yeah, i want to know about the other characters too.
This has to be one of his best album covers.

Just listened to the full album in the car earlier today and I thought the same thing. That early demo with the acoustic guitar and snare drum just flows so much better than the album version.

Prince rarely went with the stuff that flowed (on the whole, at this point)
He was always looking for ways to make it a bit diff
I think this is why i love that manic monday demo so much, it flows so perfectly
One of the most perfect things he did

After having a picture of himself on previous album covers, except 1999, Prince is said to have not wanted one on Around The World In A Day. He wrote a list that he gave to the artist to work off. One piece was produced by an artist called Jim Warren but the art used for the cover was by Doug Henders. Here’s a link of the list to an old auction of Prince’s hand written list:

https://www.rrauction.com...-art-notes

Doug Henders produced Polaroids of his subjects for the cover that he worked off, including using one of himself for the blonde haired guitarist. See this link:

https://daily.redbullmusi...d-in-a-day

Also mentioned by me in a previous thread:

https://prince.org/msg/7/469181

Back to best track on the album…nice to see there’s little consensus amongst us and that some like Temptation, which I thought was universally dismissed by Prince fans, but I’ve always liked. Around The World In A Day was the first album I got on release day and as there were no preceding singles, is the only album front to back I’ve listened to without prejudice, i.e. not influenced or biased by something already on it that has been heard already. I usually go for the funkier tracks on an album but I probably most like Condition of the Heart. Difficult choice as a lot of high calibre tracks on the album.
There may or may not be something coming!

Paisley Park - The extended version is the way to listen to this song in all its glory.

Love America (30 min version), Beret, Pop Life & Tamborine too.

The rest not so much. Always found Condition of The Heart abit overblown, and Temptation is probably his worst closing song to an album up to that point.

I always liked the whole album, but thought of RB as a slightly cheesy song for the masses/charts. The 12" is good though. Honorable mentions to the B-sides, esp Hello and She's Always
