Interesting interview... with a few new insights

- Never knew Lenny sat for two hours w Prince in his Purple Prawler he just bought, and got a two hour bible study from Prince...

- Lenny sitting w Michael Jackson and Prince in the studio to 'fuck around a bit with Michael'...

- Or recording alone with Prince, having the chance to sing background vocals on a Prince track... alone!

- Recording momentums... amazing stories.

I think he said he sings backing vocals on multiple tracks. We know Billy Jack Bitch and Dolphin are 2 of them...

As a credits nerd, it drives me crazy that we'll probably never know what tracks he sings on, or which of his tracks Prince sings or plays on. Speculation is all we'll ever have...

Was a great interview and I've always thought the two played on each other's albums at times. I'd be shocked if Prince didn't do keyboard work on some of Lenny's tracks.

if i had to take a guess, i'd say that prince is on some of the songs on "5"

esp "supersoulfighter" always sounded like prince is in there somewhere.

We know he's on Dolphin and Billy Jack Bitch. IDK who the source of this information was, but since we got to know that, there may not be other tracks.

Unless I missed it, Lenny doesn't say anything about Prince singing or playing on any of his tracks, so I'll assume he didn't until some information surfaces.

Exactly, was my thought too.

But Zane is a huge Prince fan.

On the Apple top 100, he discussed the Purple Rain Album, plus other Prince material, and it's obvious he is a big big fan. Clearly more a Prince fan than a MJackson or MJagger fan, imho of coure.

But it's nice to hear Lenny was quite close to Pricne Musically.

Lenny also didn't say anything negative about Prince preaching for two hours in a Purple Prawler car... Imagine just that specific situation!... Good grief, a two hour Jehova horseshit-talk, in the smal space of a sportscar. I would be pissed and bored as hell. Lenny was humble, smart in the way he told it. I like that.

Same like he told the story about him in the middle between those two competitive stars in the studio.

Quite amazing stories to me.

Prince played guitar on What the Fuss, which was on Conversation Peace. I agree, I always thought I heard him on some of the other songs too. Same with the George Clinton album (Hey Man Smell My Finger) I always thought I heard him on more than just The Big Pump.

Not to take anything away from Lenny who I adore, but it is funny how many people say stuff like "oh yeah, Prince and I were good friends" but when you poke a bit deeper it was more that Prince gave them 2 hour bible lectures and they did some studio work together. I do think maybe that's as close as anyone ever got to Prince once he became a big star, but Neal Karlen's book does a great job summarizing that friendship, and how you're always a bit at arm's length. Friends don't proselytise at you for hours

i think they def were musicianly friends. there was an interview with lenny where he talked about an apartment he had in the 90s and prince would come to see him there. whether they were close, obv i cant say, but they definitely seemed to hang out.

Prince played guitar on What the Fuss, which was on Conversation Peace. I agree, I always thought I heard him on some of the other songs too. Same with the George Clinton album (Hey Man Smell My Finger) I always thought I heard him on more than just The Big Pump.

You do hear Prince on more of Hey Man, a Paisley Park engineer posted here years ago and spilled the beans, Prince is all over that album.

So far we only have evidence for him being on three songs. ChronicFreeze (iirc it was him who did this great Q&A on the Org back in 2009 or 2010) only mentioned Satisfied. Then Princevault unearthed a Billboard quote from Clinton saying "(Prince is) all over the record – Way Up, Get Satisfied, Big Pump". Does this mean "all over the record" is just those three songs or more? Hard to tell, but we need more evidence.

It was ChronicFreeze. IIRC, he confirmed Get Satisfied, and although didn't get specific, suggested it was much more. I thought he also used the words "all over" the album. I was thinking he said it was a large part of the album and some of the unreleased material.

I think I took screenshots of the thread, question is, do I still have them a decade and a half later?

I remember he was very strict on anyone not ever reposting his Q&A, though I guess quoting him for academic purposes is OK since he did it on a public board.

Yeah, I would not post the screenshots if I still have them. Would like to re-read them to refresh my memory though. Especially if we're discussing it.
