Youtube has it on the Prince channel but with a message “This video is not available”. I guess that means not yet, give it a few hours…looking forward to it.

just set my vpn to australia where it's already the 24th and it shows up on youtube
just by searching "prince silver tongue".

new version indeed. with bass and drums added. and a new vocal.

sounds pretty great on first listen. much more interesting than the bare bones demo.

hmm, I'm going to add this straight to my playlists, love this little 'new' gem.

never cared to much for the demo since it's just too bare bones for my taste,
despite the ONA piano album being a favorite of mine.

She wrote the lyrics and Prince recorded it as a song which she then later recorded herself. As far an I’m aware.

I'm looking forward to hearing the new version smile I hope they will share some information about this version but it probably won't happen.

Nikka Costa’s story about "Silver Tongue"(in a 2017 Facebook post):

Many years ago Prince had emailed asking for a poem. I sent him these lyrics. What he sent back to me was an amazing jazz song with just him singing with piano. I was so blown away by this and I really wanted to record it but it never fit on any records of mine. His version is the B side for his single "Call Your Name" and it’s one of my proudest moments to have written a song with him that he wanted to record. When we were getting ready to record this album we listened through so much of my old stuff and stumbled across it again and thought it actually fits perfectly on this record we gotta do it!

According to people here on the org. Yes, they are different. To my ears they sound identical. But I havent played the original versions in years. I'm sure if I compare them I could notice any difference

A brand new version, obviously, not a "slightly different mix". This can't be a mistake, this time, right? wink

The question is: who plays drums and bass? and WHEN?

Is it John Blackwell and Rhonda Smith?

indeed nod people want to know, but once again no official info.

it would be nice if they could communicate a bit more about these 'b-side reissues'.

a part of me STILL thinks there might be a Musicology SDE coming disbelief

I hate myself for being suckerd into it again but what are we supposed to think
when they don't tell us anything? neutral

According to Prince Vault it's a new mix by Chris James.

I don't know what their source is.

perhaps the estate has communicated something on X or somewhere else?

this is a gripe I have not just with the estate but with streaming in general.

where are the credits? what an amazing time to be a sessions musician, no
one ever gets acknowledged anymore by way of the big audience. neutral

Finally listened to the new version.

It sounds like a Xpectation instrumental with a vocal. Pretty cool.

Nice, but the vocal hasn't got the same power as the original/demo.

Wonderful

"Somewhere Here On Earth" could've been the A-side to this B-side.

Releasing these like this makes that even more unlikely as I see it.
