Any idea which SDE they'll do this year ?

No SDE this year

And we'll all soon know the reason for that...

Affirmation ???

My 2 cents >>> We know the reason in right time even the communication from the Estate is bad..why there will be one SDE to come (PR) (my feeling only of course)!

The potential is there to make something mammoth...even moreso than what we saw with SOTT SDE. Imagine, 3 vault albums...maybe more. Live shows, and the protege albums all remeastered? I actually hope they stick to the 9-10 disc set and release remastered protege albums in a separate package.

I wouldn't want the Ice Cream Castles or Apollonia 6 albums included, but it would be cool to include just the songs that were in the movie, and Modernaire. Plus, a bit of the score would be nice.

You wouldn't want Blue Limousine with a little more bass? Come on..these are fantastic songs....A Million Miles...damn.

Someone replied just a few minutes ago on the Prince FB account :

"Andrii Vakhnenko was at Paisley Park last week and asked if there were plans in the works to release the entire recording at 1st Avenue that became the live parts of Purple Rain and was told yes."

Oh, I think ALL the key protege albums deserve their own re-releases, remastered & including all alternate mixes & b-sides released on singles. Which in most if not all cases should fit nicely on a single CD each.

I just don't want those 2 albums added in full to a PRSDE box set. Hopefully, it'll be loaded enough without them. Like I said though, I would like to see the tracks from the movie included. Even Dez & Michael Colombier.

That would be great if true. I hope it is. They clearly have the tracks for the event since it was put on record as such later. Now, whether there's another video source remains a mystery but I would think there isn't. And there's only so much one can do with that. But really - even so, clean it up visually, but the sound is what's important here. Take out that club atmosphere and let's hear a well done mix from the board. My God. I'm almost wet thinking about it.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

No classic live album is stripped of the atmosphere.
Thats not what a live recording is meant to be about.

yeah, but man, i hate when they do that. i'm all for a remaster/re-release, but the album needs to stand alone. i can't stand when they tack bonus tracks onto the back end of an album. if they can't fill a second CD for (at least) a nice two disc set, they shouldn't bother.

edit: oh, i see what you're saying...but my point stands. I hate when they do that thing i hate.

There are always “plans”.
This show, along with a bunch of others are all remastered and ready for a Blu Ray release… the question is when (if ever) they will actually release them.

Strangely, the Purple Rain in 24bit-96kHz was just this past week re-listed on Qobuz.

Normally Qobuz backdates release dates on flat reissues to the original format release date, but this one kept its release date of last week.

I guess they just didn't want the PP Master to be the only version on there for the anniversary?

What this says for any further digital reissues I've no idea.

Just look at the PR deluxe we have, then compare it to 1999 SDE, SOTT SDE & Diamonds SDE.

See a difference?
And if you're thinking there must not be as much extra stuff available for PR like there is with those other 3, go read Duane Tudahl's book on the studio sessions leading up to PR and you'll get the idea. There's a bunch of stuff left. Not to mention it's a good opportunity to add the tracks from The Time, Apollonia 6 & Dez + maybe some of the the score, and of course some more live stuff like the one in the thread title, maybe even rehearsals.

And oh yeah, the "remaster" for Purple Rain the album SUCKS a bag o' D's. It needs to be redone by somebody with competent remastering skills. And while they're at it, fix the glitch on Erotic City.

I noticed they managed to nearly fix/minimize the CD clicks on Stand Up And B Strong on Apple Music. I wish they could do the same for the Erotic City glitch. And Wally Warblegate while they're at it.

eek I still hear the "CD ripping" noises on "Stand Up And B Strong" on Apple Music.

These "plans" go back from 2017, where First avenue was 1st announced.
Then it was announced again circa 2019 for an Apple-only release.
Then parts of it were obviously to be shown on the Netflix documentary, that was obvious to never happen ( despite some trolls here keep on announcing it).

These " plans" never end.
Some trolls here think it will happen for this summer, when it s obvious it won't be.
It s a neverending story.

You know you don’t have to listen to a CD from start to finish, right? There used to be a « Stop » button on those old CD players. 🙂

um

I think a VHS of this back in '84 was probably the first Prince "bootleg" I ever got.

my player still has its stop button. but it's also got 200 albums in it. whether i'm shuffling that shit or on a run of 8 in a row, i don't want to hear audibly censored in studio radio performances or justifiably unreleased alternate versions that are only included as lazy marketing decisions. there are better outlets/methods these days of making that junk available.

Many Prince fans are completists and all these versions are for tjat purpose. I don't see them used lazy marketing. I am pissed, for example, that there are music videos missing from the D&P SDE.

that's not what i'm talking about. i'm talking about releases not related to prince releases that i mistakenly thought dj was suggesting would be a good format for prince related artists' reissues, specifically a single disc album reissue with a couple of tacked on bonus tracks. the prince estate is not yet guilty of the particular marketing blunders that i am describing. it's all moot at this point. except for it being suggested that i am unfamiliar with the functionality of technology that i've had in my living room for 35 years, there is nothing in my comments relevant to previous posts.

Agreed but only 4 "Clockin' The Jizz" as the other ones were posted on the official YT channel (I'm fine with it better than a VHS rip).
