Nikka Costa’s story about "Silver Tongue"(in a 2017 Facebook post): Many years ago Prince had emailed asking for a poem. I sent him these lyrics. What he sent back to me was an amazing jazz song with just him singing with piano. I was so blown away by this and I really wanted to record it but it never fit on any records of mine. His version is the B side for his single "Call Your Name" and it’s one of my proudest moments to have written a song with him that he wanted to record. When we were getting ready to record this album we listened through so much of my old stuff and stumbled across it again and thought it actually fits perfectly on this record we gotta do it! There may or may not be something coming!

To my ears they sound identical. But I havent played the original versions in years. I'm sure if I compare them I could notice any difference I will take my place, In the great below

Wow, this is great! The demo didn't do nothing for me - but this is really something else!

wow, this is a little surprise

A brand new version, obviously, not a "slightly different mix". This can't be a mistake, this time, right?

This version is much better than the demo U are now an official member of the New Power Generation

I've listened to it more times than the 'original' since yesterday already

That's a beautiful finished version with a lovely jazzy flavour.

The question is: who plays drums and bass? and WHEN?
Is it John Blackwell and Rhonda Smith? [Edited 5/24/24 2:35am]

According to Prince Vault it's a new mix by Chris James. I don't know what their source is.

Finally listened to the new version. It sounds like a Xpectation instrumental with a vocal. Pretty cool.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Nice, but the vocal hasn't got the same power as the original/demo. Hundalasiliah!
