According Goldiesparade.co.uk site : "The reissue of Purple Rain is The Estate’s major release of 2024 and will be released as a Super Deluxe Edition this summer, upgrading the standard Deluxe three-disc issue of 2017. Many fans express hope the 2024 release will this time include restored footage of the concert filmed on 3 August 1983, which was not only Prince’s public debut performance with The Revolution, this historic show was captured on tape via a rented mobile studio parked outside. Three live recordings from this show would be included in the LP itself."

hmmm how reliable is that site?

Rumours are that the estate decided not to do the PR 40 SDE.
Not sure why. I hope that’s wrong, but seems to be the case.
.
I’m not sure how it would work with the contract with Warner, but perhaps they might want to just release the concert!?

Is it not obvious with all the communication around Musicology?

" The estate major release of 2024".
Implying that there will be at least TWO releases in 2024, while we would be lucky to have ONE.

Nah, they would have saved those recent singles for after the announcement.

Sorry not sorry, but Musicology is not a favorite album for me the way people rave about it. It just clamors around a bit. I'd be way in the break room for that SDE. lol

Can someone explain to me like I'm 5 why another SDE release of Purple Rain would even be considered? Also, the Estate is a hot dumpster fire incapable of doing anything in a timely manner or in a way to satisfied the actual Prince fandom and not casual listerners.

At this point, I'd take a NEWS Super Deluxe. Anything. Just announce something before we all die or end up with dementia & only associate Prince with a range of overly crisp Belgian biscuits.
blah blah blah

A stage musical based on Purple Rain is being worked on right now,so I think a super deluxe edition of Purple Rain makes a lot of sense. The first deluxe edition is lacking in many ways. But I won’t hold my breath waiting for the estate to do the right thing, lol.

Honestly,it would not surprise me if we don’t get any SDE this year.

Just look at the PR deluxe we have, then compare it to 1999 SDE, SOTT SDE & Diamonds SDE.

See a difference?
And if you're thinking there must not be as much extra stuff available for PR like there is with those other 3, go read Duane Tudahl's book on the studio sessions leading up to PR and you'll get the idea. There's a bunch of stuff left. Not to mention it's a good opportunity to add the tracks from The Time, Apollonia 6 & Dez + maybe some of the the score, and of course some more live stuff like the one in the thread title, maybe even rehearsals.

And oh yeah, the "remaster" for Purple Rain the album SUCKS a bag o' D's. It needs to be redone by somebody with competent remastering skills. And while they're at it, fix the glitch on Erotic City.

The 2017 release wasn't even a SDE, just a quick cash grab Deluxe Edition release. I agree that the current estate is an incompetent mess and I don't have much confidence in them slapping together a satisfyingly comprehensive set of anything.

Where did you hear this rumour ?

If they don't go with PR40 SDE this year, that would also mean they won't be able to release ANY Vault release this year.

WRONG

Even the communication from the Estate is a mess.....clues are enough solid to let us know that a SDE of PR is coming this year!

I noticed they managed to nearly fix/minimize the CD clicks on Stand Up And B Strong on Apple Music. I wish they could do the same for the Erotic City glitch. And Wally Warblegate while they're at it.

Plus the whole Purple Rain themed celebration wouldn't mean much if they won't release anything regarding that

Would be really awesome if they did a Come SDE for it's 30th aniversary instead this year. Not a single word on that one.

I wouldn't be surprised if we only get the album remastered and First Ave 83' show (or another show) as a small deluxe release instead of a SDE.

I agree and I can't believe that some fans are satisfied with that flawed release. An album like Purple Rain deserves so much better. They need to go all out and give us an incredible, extensive SDE.

The potential is there to make something mammoth...even moreso than what we saw with SOTT SDE. Imagine, 3 vault albums...maybe more. Live shows, and the protege albums all remeastered? I actually hope they stick to the 9-10 disc set and release remastered protege albums in a separate package.

I wouldn't want the Ice Cream Castles or Apollonia 6 albums included, but it would be cool to include just the songs that were in the movie, and Modernaire. Plus, a bit of the score would be nice.
