'It' drum sample in Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' I was surprised to hear the title track of Taylor Swift's new album using the 'It' drum sample. It's a decent track, not the best on the album but it's nice to hear some Prince rep.

It's similar, but not a "sample", per se. Kinda like the drums in "Antihero" are similar to "Kiss". "Whatever skin we're in

I will never understand the fuzz about Taylor Swift. Her music is easy (made). Moods and buttered accessible drama for young girls (about to get pubs). When I hear her in an interview, I think wtf gurl... Born rich, started off with everything she wanted,. Don't get me wrong, hse has talent, I agree on that. Sorry Swifties. You can all bash me. Compare her with Lana Del rey or Billie Eilish, and hear (and see) what i mean. Maybe she needs to do a Britney Spears one day, and go bananas, to get things less clean. And honestly? That is no Prince sample. Not even close. I would rather say it is a stolen loop-idea from a Cigarettes After Sex song. (...I know i'm not in a good mood today...) People act like someone else can't manipulate a sound in the studio. It's unlikely, and probably untrue, that Taylor was dipping into SOTT for... a drum sample???? Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

swift and beyonce, i dont much like either
She has talked about prince before though, in rolling stone: Swift: Yeah, I think, when a pseudonym comes in is when you still have a love for making the work and you don’t want the work to become overshadowed by this thing that’s been built around you, based on what people know about you. And that’s when it’s really fun to create fake names and write under them. McCartney: Do you ever do that? Swift: Oh, yeah. McCartney: Oh, yeah? Oh, well, we didn’t know that! Is that a widely known fact? Swift: I think it is now, but it wasn’t. I wrote under the name Nils Sjöberg because those are two of the most popular names of Swedish males. I wrote this song called “This Is What You Came For” that Rihanna ended up singing. And nobody knew for a while. I remembered always hearing that when Prince wrote “Manic Monday,” they didn’t reveal it for a couple of months. [Edited 4/19/24 23:14pm]

By the way, that drum pattern is only slightly similar to "It." It sure to fuck doesn't sound like "It."
At. All. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It's just Jack Antonoff using a LinnDrum-esque plugin to emulate the sound of the 80s. There's no way someone with music as bland as Taylor is pulling from Prince for musical inspiration

It's more of a classic 80s gated snare sound. Not a sample, easily recreated. Love Taylor though, the new album is great!

Funny to read this - I also thought "hey, this sounds remotely like a Prince drum beat" while listening to the album... not sure which song I was listening to when this thought hit me --- and must admit I kinda drifted off, the songs sound so similar, I actually fell asleep during my listening session

31 tracks on one album. Prince would love that. Prob would be pissed he wasnt doing that in the 80s. But she also isnt the best at editing herself, or editing albums that is. She just cant stop recording and releasing. Her whole mission to rerecord her old albums, prince would love that too, seeing as he planned the same in the 90s. I bet he would try to work with her, but at this point, she might be too big. Her songs are too many and too samey though.

What's with her hair anyway? She looks so.... damn ordinary all the time... Maybe she should pay more attention to Prince's looks... ))) AND his music. HUH! (... is would James Brown say.) makenzie said: It's simply Jack Antonoff employing a LinnDrum-style plugin to recreate the 80s sound. There's no chance that someone with music as unremarkable as Taylor Swift's is drawing inspiration from Prince's musical style. Deja vu...
