I’m late to the party with this, so much so the original thread self-locked, so thanks to Langebleu for rekindling! I asked for this as a Christmas present and am slowly taking it in since Monday. Read the Andrea Swennson essay in the book and take home from that was Tommy talking about doing his homework, buying and listening to lots of records. Only listened to the first of the vault discs so far. The first 6 tracks, Schoolyard, My Tender Heart, Pain, Streetwalker, Lauriann, Darkside would have made a great start to an album. He should have done a duet of My Tender Heart with Celine Dion or Madonna or Whitney and I reckon would have had a massive hit. I think the alternative versions/demos, might have been better put all together on a separate disc, leaving the other songs to stand out on their own. Early days of listening for me and I’m enjoying the set so far. There may or may not be something coming!

yes eye 2 decided 2 put this one on my wish list and have just begun diving in .. it wasn't easy since eye downloaded it when it came out but alas the long wait and low expectations eye feel will enhance my experience .. so far eye am only on the remix disk but am enjoying it more than eye remembered when these b sides came out .. thanks for the fresh thread!

Got to the 2nd vault disc and loved the fun and funk of Work That Fat, Something Funky and The Last Dance. But, oh my, had a big grin on my face listening to Blood On The Sheets - imagine finding that tape in the vault and listening to it for the first time. Sorry to be crude but it’d be like your first wank. There may or may not be something coming!

eye agree with many that the extended schoolyard isn't neccessary but the song itself ... if eye had not heard it a million times already ..would be .. my tender heart is kinda cheesy and lame .. not a great second song but might be better later in a long set .. eye don't understand the love for it or the lori anne song which eye also find tame and lame .. pain and streetwalker are both a blast as is skip to my you .. glam slam 91 will be more fun once eye edit out the "stone freak to the bone" rap eye have now heard in 3 different songs eye think .. again insatiable would be better if eye had not heard it already .. my bad .. same with the superior live for love which would have been much better on dnp than the cartoonish version that made the cut .. eye wish they would put all the extended mixes and demos on the b sides cd so as not 2 take up space on the vault disks .. extended dnp is a snooze and unneccessary .. the book eye started .. is fun and prolly why the set is so expensive .. the guitar jam is fun .. would be better with lyrics or more fleshed out .. eye may move on to vault 2 soon .. and .. my eye's are more than compensated by my 2's and u's so most likely eye have gained some days not the other way around .. .. oh and the cream jam is pretty great too .. just spoiled it from the preview tracks before eye stopped listening 2 them so eye would still have something 2 look forward 2 .. knowing eye have 2 vault disks and the concert still coming has me pumped .. eye hope the parade deluxe has a nice big book like this one .. and even more vault trax please .. eye won't wait for the holidays 4 parade .. that will be a day 1 purchase

3rd vault disc was a tad disappointing for me. Will have to re-listen and see if it was just the mood I was in but didn’t seem to be anything particularly that stood out. Onto the live show next… There may or may not be something coming!

Vault 2 was good! Pretty sure Tony did not make it on that mix of daddy pop, which is good .. eye find that the goofy songs like glam slam 91, something funky this house comes, horny pony, last dance and work that fat are the most fun .. of course open book is fantastic! spirit is pretty good 2 and eye don't mind Martikas kitchen .. hold me is super cheezy but eye like it better than my tender heart 4 sure .. don't say u love me is weird .. sounds like p was trying to write an n'sync song .. eye did dip my toes in2 vault 3 .. aside from get blue and alice thru the looking glass, its a bit of a let down .. overall tho some nice tracks in the 3 disk set that will make a great 90 minute mixtape if eye include some of the b sides and remixes .. the book is still a blast .. haven't finished it yet tho

The 3rd disc is one of my favourite collections of vault music so far. [Edited 1/6/24 9:23am] Something BIG Is Coming.

This is why Prince needs celebrating more, as one person’s cold coffee, is another’s… well finest Colombian. There may or may not be something coming!

live show was a lil disappointing .. thought 4 sure the sound would be great but here we have another "blue ray" with distorted vocals .. the mix is not very princely either .. bass n guitar should be less prominent to hear the drums better .. the nu jack hip hop is overabundant on this live release .. errbody rappin all the time .. kinda hard 2 endure .. overall not a bad SDE but not great either .. wish we got a better live show .. the mastering on the outtakes is better than previous vault disks and there are some real treats included .. still working on the book but pretty cool so far .. if SOTT SDE was a 4 1/2, eye give this a 3 .. not a great era in general but a fun release

I was expecting more too from the live show, given most people have been hyping it up may be that’s why it was a bit flat. I’ll definitely be giving the first two vault discs heavy rotation, and will come back to the rest as time passes and listen with fresh ears and a fresh mood - it took me 35 years to appreciate The Arms of Orion. There may or may not be something coming!

Listened to the edits disc today. Nice to hear the Gett Off damn near 10 minute version - great flute on it. Other Gett Off mixes nothing new to me, but not listened to the Cream ones for ages, so enjoyed them. Real highlight was the Willing and Able video version. There may or may not be something coming!

That The Sacrifie Of Victor is so fucking a-ma-zing! The whole concert to be honest. And I Also enjoyed the Dolby Atmos album. "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

its amazing to see a small club show filmed this well but for me, its a document of a show that was made for a bigger stage, and a full production. shame we didnt get to see that. the D&P show was meant to be about all those outfits, the elevator, the actual D&P girls, etc. also, i dont really care much for sacrifice of victor as a song, never did, so i got nothing from this version. i also never liked this version of NC2U. too overblown. prince is great, as far as his actual performance, but i prefer listening to the outtakes.

the glam slam show audio is so overly processed and compressed that eye find it challenging 2 enjoy at all .. it sounds like a live 2 vhs mix turned in2 an mp3 and then run through a loudness processor .. eye had 2 put on the Earls Court 92 show 2 clear my pallet .. Earls Court was such a relief 2 listen 2 in comparison even tho it is an audience boot .. eye expected syracuse level sound quality and sharpness from the DNP era which was lucrative .. that no show exists in high crisp quality seems impossible ...
the remixes are great and so are quite a few of the outtakes .. really got my hopes up on that live disk ..

The Insatiable Extended Version was the Tape that Prince gave me on a cassette at 3am after leaving Paisley Park Studios the night it was recorded that night Prince came to my home in a limo and we drove around and listened to the song for about and hour then the limo driver dropped me off back at My apt. Prince handed me the tape and then told me to listen to it every night! #RobinPowerRoyal [Edited 1/23/24 9:28am]

Finally listened to the remastered album today. What a great little tune Strollin’ is, his voice is mellifluous on it, one of the underrated tracks I think. There may or may not be something coming!
