All A Share Together Now - and your favorite late period tunes I'm still enjoying this little tune a lot. I just love his post 1996/2000s music.
she picked him out of a crowded room -there was only joy and laughter she had a plan to change all that real soon she always knew what she was after
It's very different from prime era PRINCE-prince, but I still enjoy it and I do find myself listening to these albums and songs again and again at times even more so than the actual stone cold god-tier material.
I just think it's ok to enjoy both, and so I'm also looking forward to newer vault material just as much as 80s stuff. It's all super interesting to me. Anyway, All A Share Together Now. I wish they'd given us at least 2 of the song from that session on that cassette at the celebration.
Hopefully those other tracks they previewed will someday be released
what are some of your favorite late era tracks that hardly get a mention here? which ones do you listen to most often? which ones resonated with you most when you first heard them? Or which ones have grown on you the most?

a few others that spring to mind are
Rich Friends - simply amazing tune. love the sonics, love the flow of it, the lyrics, everything.
1010 Rin Tin Tin - favorite tune on W2A for me.
F.U.N.K - of course, but I don't think it's an overlooked track as a lot of people agree it's a highlight. it's probably one of my most listened to prince tracks from post 1996. I can never get enough of it
Ain't Gonna Miss U When U're Gone - another almost forgotten song that fell between the cracks and yet deserved so much more attention. super nice tune that flutters and bounces and just runs on and on and on and yet it never gets boring. great backing vocals by ledisi as well.
All The Midnights In The World - pretty much despised by everyone who went to the Planet Earth listening party and yet it became my instant favorite track from the album. next to Lion of Judah I still listen to it very often. love it's quirky, simple charm. I hope and pray there are dozens of these left in the vault.

Free Urself
one of the very last tracks he released and another deceptively simple tune. I do honestly often ask myself when listening to this "is it because it's prince that I like this? would I be so into it if it was by anyone else?" I don't know. But the man had a great talent for these seeminlgy simple songs that just get under your skin and are simply solid, absolutely well written and enjoyable tracks.

Revelation
need I even say anything about this? it just dropped out of nowhere and it still surprises me whenevery I listen to it, eventho I've already heard it a couple of hundred times by now. what a great great song. could have done with a longer guitar solo at the end, like the live premiere, but I guess that was too expected and so he didn't do that on record. his vocals on this are fabulous. |

Time
yet another song that seems so simple and is still so mesmerizing. i love almost everything prince and andy did together. their voices go so well together and they seemed to really be on a very nice synergetic plateau for a little while. she brought very good things out in him. I hope there are many more things they worked on that will come out of the vault someday.
this song in particular I love prince's over the phone vocals and the bass toward the end is so addictive. I could listen to that on a loop all day long. it's not a mood, it's THE mood.

Affirmation I & II - Way Back Home - Affirmation III
I think it's pretty much universally loved, or at least liked, but Way Back Home appeared like a blazing comet to me personally. I remember my exact reaction to it. I'm grateful that he actually released it and didn't consider it too personal in the end. I guess it being tied to the over arching theme of the album and the affirmation suites ment it simply had to be included. Thankfully it was.

dang! there are simply too many late period highlights. although I'm not sure we're deep into the late period by 2006. but whatever. what even is this song? an ode to an adress, a kindred spirit to paisley park? at this point I do think I cannot be convinced that Prince/Sonny/Michael could put a single toe, let alone a foot wrong in the studio when they jammed together. Whatever they lay the foundations for always turned into something beautiful, fierce or even monolithic. |

Hardrock Lover
I always listen to the single download from Tidal as it sounds a bit more crisp to me and it actually has an ending, instead of being mixed into Mr Nelson like on the album. Another song I tend to get lost in once I put it on. The guitar is so sultry and sexual and so dirty. The emotions he could make you feel with just some chords, wow. And I love the he started to release some more risky/smutty material again toward the end there. I love his religious music but I also like his nasty stuff, the one does not have to exclude the other imo. Just like adoring 80s prince automatically means there is nothing for you to enjoy in later periods of his output.

Always liked Stare and Screwdriver - there was a buzz of expectation of good things to come when I heard them both.
I agree with F.U.NK., Free Urself and 3121 too. There may or may not be something coming! |

And listen to “This is what it feels like” from Art Official Age on its own, but ideally straight after “When Stars Collide” from Andy Allo’s Superconductor album.
Edit: I forgot to mention Rock n roll love Affair [Edited 1/11/24 15:34pm]

love My Medallion. so glad we got a full track after we got that little bit of it's instrumental track, backing his funny acceptance speech for some award show.
I don't know why, I win awards, I can't lie, I only know 2 chords I don't know why, but I'm overjoyed If I could just get signed, instead I'm unemployed -Thank you, just the same.
Sticky Like Glue! I forgot about that one for a bit there, have it on right now and it's very nice!

Glasscutter is another one of those great great tunes that hardly ever gets a mention.
The guitar on it is absolutely insane. I'm going to listen to it right now
Also, The whole Lotusflower album is amazing, so I agree with whatever tracks anyone picks from it

It's a shame Glasscutter didn't make it to any album. It should have been on 3121 instead of Fury. U are now an official member of the New Power Generation

Ooooh, Xpedition is so good! I forgot about that one, somehow. I haven't listened to the entire Xpectation album in a long time, I'm now realising. Going to change that tomorrow because it's a cool album.

It's a nice song and I love the last instrumental bits with just the "ooo hoo hoo hoooohooo" vocals.
But why is it one of your favourites? One of your favourite late era prince tracks or just in general one of your favourites? Because of the message? Or the music?
