So I clicked the link and went down the rabbit hole and ... hoo boy.

Lemon Cake wasn't even good enough of a song to warrant all of this but I do love minding the business of other people so the rabbit hole was entertaining as all to say the least.

And I am currently looking up chocolate lemon cake recipes, so there's a silver lining.

At first, I was on Patricia's side, then she went bonkers with her Sunset Sound interview and I thought - they're all crazy. People give Susannah shit, when in fact she's the most logical and down to earth person, super sweet, and has what - brought out the "Starfish and Coffee" picture, at best? That's it? No memoir, or waving flags about this or that. She chimed in on a FB post. I've talked to her a few times. She's the only other memoir I'd wanna read. The Melvoins have had an interesting life and she has quite the story to tell. She's not perfect but I'd have a 5 minute talk with her rather than an hour of bullshit like Apollonia.

Quite frankly the only one I'm interested in hearing anything from is Brenda -- she's a real one, and she hasn't engaged in the theatrics like Apples, Sheila and to a much lesser extent Jill and Susannah.

Fuuuuck, not again!

In short, these heifers were arguing over who made a lemon cake that Prince seemed to love. Sheila E. had a song or something saying it was inspired by her making him a cake.

Then Brenda Bennett chimes in and said it was her who did it, and her ex-husband (and Prince's former lighting designer) LeRoy Bennett backed up her claim.

I forget where Patricia landed in it all.

It was the dumbest fucking argument over nothing, simply to have a one-up on someone else.

"I made the cake."

"No, I made the cake!"

"No, it was me. I made the lemon cake. He loved me best!"

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Ehhhh, it went down a bit differently than that... The whole thing is chronicaled pretty thoroughly here, including Apples' homophobic slurs to Sheila: https://funkatopia.com/fu...he-legend/

I remember when this crazy scandal happened. We had a very lengthy thread about it here on the Org lol

Brenda would be good to hear from about stuff! "Why don't you let us come up with our own stories?" hahaha Wasn't Brenda and/or Susan on Apollonia's podcast? I should go watch that, see what was said.

Jill's always been the problem child. "I keep it real!" Okay girl, heel.

Susannah has laid low mostly. She's never really went after anyone. Her "yep" was one of the more forward things she's done.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

The A6 reunion podcast was good. I think it was somewhere in Part 2, however, that Apples made a very blatant edit so something Brenda said wouldn't be heard. It was right after Brenda was talking about Moral Majority and the vaulted recordings from the second Vanity 6 album -- wouldn't surprise me if Brenda said something about Vanity's Manic Monday, which she's interviewed about before, since we all know Apples now tries taking credit for writing that song... wouldn't that be a trick? Writing a song recorded before you were even in the picture! lol

I'm surprised Sheila hasn't said she married Prince in a former life.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

My favorite Apollonia story is the time she learned for the first time less than 5 years ago that Lisa was doubling her vocal on Take Me With U to mask Apples' off-key caterwauling lol

Okay, I was off on the timeline, as the article was originally published in 2009, but the point still stands that for 25 years Apples thought it was herself singing on Take Me With U: Prince: The Oral History ...le Rain’:

COLEMAN Apollonia came and saved the day. But she was not a singer. She was an actress. So the poor thing was thrown into the studio: “Here, you have to sing this.” She was like, “Oh my God, I don’t know how to sing.” And she did the best she could. I doubled her vocals on “Take Me With U” to make it sound a little better.

KOTERO I don’t remember that. But I would imagine she’s on [the song].Much of the Purple Rain soundtrack was recorded over the summer of 1983 at a warehouse in suburban Minneapolis and live onstage at First Avenue.

I have that magazine. Perhaps it's time to go re-read it.
