Sex In The Summer with a strong album track b-side (Soul Sanctuary)

As others have said So Far So Pleased, although it'd be coasting on Gwen's name being attached. Remove her and I don't see it as a single at all.

I like it there. Maybe, at the time. I doubt it would have done any worse than "Dinner with". Might have stopped the balladeer association after the success of TMBGITW.

To be honest, I don't think there was anything he could have done to score a top 10 post Emancipation onwards. Short of doing a large promotional tour of TV shows and radio, giving interviews as well as performing... Which he somewhat tried with TGRES, and that didn't work.

"Come On" was catchy as hell and had a decent video but still failed.

"Black Sweat" was pretty catchy too, with an even better video and didn't stick.

"Breakfast Can Wait" was as mature RnB as anything he'd ever put out (save for the stupid chipmunk voice that cuts over everything at the end) and it failed to make a dent.

I'm a little bit surprised that nobody has brought up "The One U Wanna C"

Imho that would have been a perfect hit single: it's simple, it has a catchy chorus, it is totally radio friendly, it could even been played on a Country radio station.

Remember Daft Punk's Discovery?
I bought that album day one back in january 2001.
The guys invested their money in financing a japanese-made animated movie, by the studio who made Albator.

The first four tracks of the album were the first four singles. The fifth track interpolated DMSR, for the record. Each of the 14 tracks had all music videos, each of them following each other, telling a story. They ended up releasing the whole movie, which is exactly the 60 minutes album.
That was a fucking great idea, that maybe deserved to sell the album a whole lot more than it did.

When listening to Art Official Age in 2014, I was thinking : since Prince is too old/ tired to do music videos, why couldb't he finance an animated movie, be it a manga, be it a comic thing, based on the whole album.

1st single : Art Official Cage, then followed by Clouds, etc.
That would have been a fantastic, bold vehicule for the album. Prince was multi-hundred millionnaire, he could have afford it.
