What song do you think would had been a hit if released as a single and promoted .?

What song do you genuinely think could have been a hit had it been released as a single with the right promotion ( videos, 12” remixes) …?

The FUTURE - given the hype of Batman that summer. A fantastic video and a 12”remix I think would have sent it top 10.

SO FAR, SO PLEASED. Gwen Stefani perhaps in a video promo with Prince makes this a top ten for sure

LOLITA … a video and it continues his “ comeback”.

THE DANCE ELECTRIC. during the Purple Rain era … with a

Glam Slam was released and promoted. MTV played the video somewhat regularly. But it never caught on.

Of all the songs people have suggested, I see Private Joy as being the one most likely to have been a major it. It's not my personal favorite from the list, but it strikes me as being very commericial and accessible (I don't mean that in a negative way), which an amazing hook.

What Do U Want me 2 Do?

Has a very catchy hook and all the classics sounds in it.

And.....

Fallinlove2nite

was released as single, but lacked promotion. Momentum was there with the new girl episode broadcasted after superbowl.

My children of then 7 and 11, immediately memorized the hook and sang along. Not the best single/track by far....but commercially a potential megahit....

"The Future" was a single with a great remix, albeit only in the UK.

"So Far, So Pleased" wasn't green-lighted by the record companies, nor "Waiting Room". A shame.

"The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker" was slated as the follow up single.

But, then we got "If I Was Your Girlfriend" with the fake (extended version) on the 12" lol

Bad move...IIWYG turned off quite a few fans/listeners and media, who were confused by by the song's lyrics and delivery

the emancipation singles should have been sleep around (with a masters at work remix), the love we make, in this bed eye scream, and maybe one of us (though that would prob have been too soon as it had just come out the year before).
