Prince - Official Podcast: The Story of Diamonds And Pearls - Episode 4 i think this has been a good little series. obviously they arent going to invite much debate around the album and the new direction the podcast likes to talk up, which seems like a missed opportunity - why isnt chuck d on here? or other rappers from minneapolis? or critics even? im sure there were a few more opposing opinions on previous podcasts from the estate, but i could be wrong. anyway, it was cool to learn a bit more about the live shows, and how the arsenio show made prince change it up (how though, i wasnt sure), though its odd that they dont mention the actual tour (wtf lol). but i guess thats just because there is no tour document on the SDE (which seems bizarre really, they could have included the glam slam blu ray and include audio from the proper tour). its also interesting to me that for all the npg members hyping this album as being about real funk and a real band sound etc etc, as the actual album is a typical mix of prince doing one man songs, and live stuff including the band.its def true that you get a bit more gospel influence, and a diff sound to princes 80s stuff, but the albums funkier songs like get off, push, arent actually live songs, and daddy pop relies heavily on drum breaks, not michael b's live drumming). its only on the live stuff that you really get to hear things like sonny's bass playing or michael's drumming properly.
