The War at Paisley Park? Any you all attend the time Prince did The War at Paisley Park and he was still going on and the Sun was coming?

I was there. It was great. It was long. People often left Paisley Park parties/shows "early" because these shows often went until 6:30 AM. "New Power slide...."

I am heaps interested in this; what was the mood like? The War was edited for release, was there anything you remember about the full performance that wasnt in the edit?

I wonder where the studio recording of this song is... and if it has the same lenght... "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

I'd be interested to hear the unedited live version, all 45 mins of it - but not sure I would listen too many times!

I was there and so was my future wife(who I had not met yet) who was attending a Paisley show for the first time. Because of this fact we discuss this show often and both of us agree the War in person was boring and the tape/CD is superior. Prince was off stage for at least half of the time and it was more confusing than anything. It was also super late and we had been siting around for hours. Also. In my memory he played 4 awesome guitar tracks first like Computer Blue and Still the One so The War was a tone change and a letdown. Awesome track as released.

I always heard that it wasn't a great live experience. Just shows how something can be repurposed/edited into something superior. The final release is fascinting, and a great addition to his body of work.

How do you all feel about these lyrics in it: "We know your name its The Beast all of God's Children is your feast"???

I was there as well and agree with the others’ comments. I remember kinda roaming around the (fairly small) crowd. It’s not really a song that you can dance or groove out to. Much better as a truncated experience in your car or chilling out at home. Getting the tape in the mail was a trip. I think I’d cancelled my Crystal Ball order by then (what a disastrous rollout!) and was surprised when it showed up. BTW, I stopped by the PP gift shop when I was home over the Labor Day Weekend and the tapes were still in stock. I grabbed one because it reminds me of what a great time I had hanging out at Paisley all those times.

They're still selling The War on cassette at PP?? I was in the main soundstage at a Celebration many years ago - I pulled back a curtain and there were boxes and boxes of the 5 CD Crystal Ball.

Regarding when Prince spoke of The Beast in this song which is The Beast in the Bible in Revelation...
Do you think these people are right in the video below?
