The most disliked Prince tracks : results! Thanks to everyone who contributed to the previous thread. I have been shaken to the very core of my being by some of the results! Honestly, it just goes to show what diverse tastes are exhibited by members of the org and I think that's a great thing. So, in joint 3rd place (2votes): Purple and Gold Take Me With U๐ Temptation Rainbow Children Hot Thing Free๐ Animal Kingdom In 2nd place (3 votes): Jughead In 1st place (5 votes): Graffiti Bridge Well, I fully agree with 1st and 2nd place but I'm a bit shocked by some in the joint 3rd place. Thoughts? ๐โ๏ธ๐ธ

Ugh, insane to see "Free" on that list...

I can't believe 'Purple and Gold' is not in 1st place. I'm assuming people just didn't even listen to it.

I'm surprised at most of these songs because I wouldn't consider them to be anywhere near his worst. Some of these are pretty good

Rainbow Children doesnโt belong anywhere near this list. And Freeโฆ well, it is the song that first sold me on Prince when I listened to 1999. Hundalasiliah!

When there are songs as insipid as Million $ Show in his catalogue, how can any of these songs (spare maybe Jughead) be eligible for this dishonor? For all of its crimes, Purple & Gold is at least somewhat interesting. Hundalasiliah!

Whoah whoah, it was a poll? And the polling is closed?!
I demand my absentee ballot be counted as soon as I bump the thread so "Free" can take its assertive place as definitive #3 (pretty pretty plz).

Temptation is one of the best!
I guess it's too artistic and experimental for some. [Edited 9/10/23 5:19am] "Man, the living creature, the creating individual, is always more important than any established style or system" - Bruce Lee

I like all these songs, especially Free. That song's ending is really moving. Not sure what y'all are / are not smokin. I have a few I really don't like but I don't feel up to the task of channeling all the hate lol.

Ridiculous - Rainbow Children's title track is one of his greatest achievements. If you can't hear that then gtfo.

Hot thing ? I didn't know it was a disliked song. Prince played it a lot.
I actually commented that Take me with U was the worst. [Edited 9/10/23 12:28pm]

Haha, it wasn't meant to be scientific, just a bit of fun. It seems to have unleashed a lot of emotion though ๐ For the record, I love Free, Take Me With U, Temptation, Hot Thing and Rainbow Children ๐โ๏ธโค๏ธ

Graffiti Bridge gets the hate from me because its a title track to a album and movie and its so awful. He tries hard but my God what a blunder. So the high profile awfulness of the track means I think it deserves it haha

Prince had a prolific career spanning many genres and styles, so it's not surprising that certain tracks may divide opinions. Ultimately, the beauty of Prince's music lies in its ability to evoke different emotions and reactions from listeners.

It's cheesy and overly sacchrine... and also borderline propaganda.

I think it catches flack for the same reason "Rainbow Children" probably did. The "God" vocal effect/character is a little too sacrilegious for his more fervently devout fans. They were fine with him offending middle America prancing around in black panties and high heels singing about eating chicks out but they draw the line at pitch-shifting down a couple octaves. Take Me With You - A great song on one of the greatest records of the 1980's
Hot Thing - Album version good. Live SOTT version classic. Only people I can see not liking this song are Gen Z puritans
Animal Kingdom - Just the break alone where he sings through the vocorder ( or whatevr it is) makes it better than 80 pct of the funk songs released that year.
Free- Not among his best but, not anywhere near his worst either. This song was basically a warm up for Purple Rain. Prince's first stab at a power ballad. If it took this to get to PR, I'm ok with it.
Temptation - Again, the guitar solo alone makes it worth the price of admission.

โTake Me With Uโ is a good song.I think fans criticize it only because of Apolloniaโs weak vocals

I'm surprised and happy to see Free on this list. I thought it was only me who really didn't like it.

I think the vast majority would agree Purple and gold. Which is sad, given its intentions. Prince wasn't great at commissioned songs? Everything else on that list is arguably fans personal favorites. I love Free and RC. I've never liked Take Me With U but obviously many love it. Time keeps on slipping into the future...
