Analyzing collections of unpublished works I've made a list of the songs released from Prince's post-mortem unreleased collections (including Crystal Ball for comparison). By "unreleased" I mean songs that have not been officially released, by "released" songs that had already been released as singles or digitally, by "Prince versions of songs written for other artists" pieces that Prince had already worked on, but not released for himself, "versions alternatives of songs already known" means the alternative versions, remixes, other versions of songs officially recorded by Prince. Alternative versions of songs that Prince has never released (example, Teacher Teacher) are not considered as alternative versions. Let me know if there are mistakes, thank you. . * Crystal Balls: unreleased: 25 Prince versions of songs written for other artists: 0 alternative versions of already known songs: 5 . *Purple Rain Deluxe: unreleased: 9 Prince's versions of pieces written for other artists: 1 alternative versions of already known songs: 2 . * Originals: unreleased: 0 Prince versions of pieces written for other artists: 15 alternative versions of already known songs: 0 . * 1999 SDE unreleased: 14 Prince's versions of pieces written for other artists: 1 alternative versions of already known songs: 9 . * Sign "0" The Times SDE unreleased: 36 Prince versions of songs written for other artists: 0 alternative versions of already known songs: 9 . * Welcome 2 America unreleased: 8 Prince versions of songs written for other artists: 0 alternative versions of already known songs: 2 already released:2 . * Diamonds & Pearls SDE unreleased: 13 Prince versions of pieces written for other artists: 13 alternative versions of already known songs: 7 [Edited 8/31/23 0:55am] [Edited 8/31/23 5:37am]

The D&P SDE has, more or less, the same number of unreleased songs of "1999 SDE" plus, more or less, the same number of "Original" songs Prince wrote for other artists. Obviously same number does not mean "same quality or interest".

All for the low low price of only a $200 price increase from that 1999 set...

Flaws withstanding, the SOTT SDE was a cool release, wasn't it?

. And a very uncomfortable package when you want to listen the cds. But the price increase for the cds is 80€ in Italy (more or less 80€ the 1999 SDE, 160€ the D&P SDE).

. Mixed feeelings. SOT SDE gave us a lot of masterworks that we NEEDED. The tracklisting anyway left me with a sense of dissatisfaction, as if in spite of everything it hadn't been able to fully photograph that period of Prince. The dark/jazz side of Prince is poorly focused and listening to individual CDs is not very homogeneous. But, yes, it has released many many songs that I have been waiting to hear for a long time in decent audio quality.

Alls 'n alls, 'tis only crystal balls... Using the 125 unreleased songs we have, potentially... 12 albums, 9 12" singles plus b-sides! Are people still complaining??? "Whatever skin we're in
we all need 2 b friends" | |

I think Diamonds and Pearls has a great mixture of unreleased, songs given to others and alternate versions. I'm really looking forward to hearing those alternative versions. Forever My Life and Strange Relationship alternatives were amongst my favourite tracks on the Sign set. The only track on the Sign boxset that I think is out of Place is the 1979 version of I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man. The only track I find disappointed with on the 1999 set is the tour demo. It should have Extra loveable, Lust U Always and Prince's Jerk Out on there Something BIG Is Coming.

I feel like a lot of people forget that some vault tracks on 1999 SD and SOTT SD were recorded for other artists.
1999 has:
SOTT has:
I Feel like the only thing D&P Deluxe is missing is unreleased remixes, but with the E-Flat version of 7 being released, and with a possible a possible standalone Vault Series, I have hopes for these remixes to find a good home, without taking up half of a Super Deluxe. Screaming. Panting. Making Noise.

. True but TBH I specified that "Prince versions of songs written for other artists" means pieces that Prince had already worked on, but not released for himself. I think all the songs you cites were never released.
