Loving this! Groove gives some Teddy Riley & New Jack Swing vibes. Hint of Batman era in the background vocals, or maybe it's that sweep reverb effect.

With a hint of Pheremone.

I promised myself I will try to resist and listen to the entire album when released. But I am curious: what´s the vibe of this song? Live band? Electronic drums? Piano driven? Experimental? Does it remind of another P song?

Stevie Wonder should add this on the playlist of his radio station in LA. It would be another massive hit for Prince(r.i.p.).

+ a little bit of The Max from the Love Symbol album, or at least a very similar bass line.

I really like all the melodic parts, especially chorus. And I'd love to hear that opening line he is doing with his voice been done with synth or horns.
But the drums production - really unimaginative take on new jack swing, that hard metallic beat smashes my head.
If it would've been produced in the eighties and with Linn... – oh god, the real stuff!

It's a nice track. But it's obvious why it didn't make the album. It's a little too generic. We can all get a little carried away when we get to hear unreleased music for the first time, proclaiming it as a 'masterpiece'. Prince generally had a good ear for quality, and whilst he was happy to hype up the mystery around the vault and claim his best songs were unreleased, the reality is, he usually put the best tracks out.

Diffinitly fits with the Martica tracks.
Sounds like a guide demo for some other artist.
Feels like its missing the lead vocals. Or is it that his vocals sound more in the back as in background. I agree with others, it has that new jack vibe. It's cool. It might take a time to sink in more
Cant believe my purple psychedelic pimp slap pimp2

I hear u...im normally on the "this was left in the vault for a reason" side, when hearing these unreleased tracks.. but this one is pretty good.

this is exceptional. sleazy, dark, melodic in a really cool way, that synth constantly chirping away along with the menacing bassline eating everything up. sounds nothing like D&P - superb and such a joy to hear.

similar to the pheromone comparisons someone made, this sound is why i rank come as a top 5 p album

Thanks! When I saw the title, I thought it would be something more psychedelic/intimate, but it seems it´s not.

You can tell this is still in the early stages
I like it though
Soooo early 90s lol
Def very teddy riley and gene Griffin and la and babyface influenced
Its cool to hear prince doing more typical sounding songs
Though i can see why he wouldnt have released it for himself
At least not at this stage in his career
Though now wondering what kind of stuff is in the vault from the later eras! Prince doing songs like usher? Like arianna grande? Taylor swift?

I wonder if Sheila ever did vox for this. That I would love to hear.

Imagine Prince's version with the arrangement from Sheila E. 2002's version (the horns in particular).

.

Overall, not a bad track, but, yes, it's a bit raw. It doesn't really sound finished.

Odd choice to have this song as a preview of the SDE seeing as its obv in the rough stage of development.

Would this get much interest from radio etc? Idk.

So if we had this version on a boot release and then a more fleshed out version was released people we complain it was over produced.

I think this is fine as it.

I don't think radio is in the mind of anyone 'promoting' this box. It's for the fans, obviously.
The only way anything like this becomes a hit is if tik tok picks it up and makes it hot for a
couple minutes. That could boost streams to very high numbers.

But on Spotify's 'new releases' for this friday, it doesn't even feature in the 100 songs they
list. Probably because all those songs are paid for by their companies to be there. Yet it's a
telling sign that a new prince track isn't even featured on there. It's just different times and
a different game/strategy with music these days.

If you want the good stuff, you just have to go digging for it yourself. Wether it's a new or a
very old song or a reissue - the best stuff is the stuff radio isn't going to play anyway.

Would be nice for the estate though, if one of these songs raked in some extra attention or
even some cash. But for that to happen I think they have to start licensing music to films
and commercials. And the org doesn't want that lol
