One step closer to a PARADE Super Deluxe Edition

Now that the estate has all but confirmed a Diamonds & Pearls SDE is on the way, I hope it puts us one step closer to a Parade SDE. I know there’s been rumors about it for years and the Estate has even played Parade-era outtakes at Paisley Park. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited for a D&P SDE, but man a Parade SDE is what I truly desire. I know we probably won’t get it until 2025 or 2026 since next year will be all out Purple Rain, but I will remain patient with my fingers crossed.

Following PR40 with a Parade SDE would be great. I know the public generally overlook ATWIAD, and I don't know how many unreleased songs there are for ATWIAD - if any. I mean, the leaked D&P tracklist has given names of so many songs I'd never heard of before, so who knows? ATWIAD also feels too tied to PR, in a way, to yeild it's own SDE. I'm just waiting for Evolsidog to be officially released, can't stop playing the leaked Celebration audio!!

eye dont think U heard me . . .

What more do we need to confirm? Do you think this! Is about OF4S or something?

I echo this fully. I'm 100% down for Parade over Diamonds and Pearls. I don't get the uber hype around D&P, not that it's a bad album or anything. It's just not as grand as Parade is. It's a little Tony M., a little thin in the production here and there (Thunder, Walk Don't Walk). Just a few minor points of contention. Still a good record.

But give me Parade any fucking day. I actually made my own Parade expanded the other day just to have something new-ish to listen to.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

The sooner we get to Parade SDE, the better. Hell, I'm more excited about a potential Purple Rain SDE next year than the D&P SDE we're about to get, but it is what it is

LOL not a hacker. Just kinda stretching for something different. I'm bored with the estate's bullshit.

So far, this is what I've come up with. I may still do a little rearranging.

I just did it on Saturday. It's also more loosely based on the order of songs in the movie, but not exactly.

  1. An Honest Man (vocal)
  2. Wendy’s Parade
  3. New Position (Clare’s Version)
  4. I Wonder U
  5. Under The Cherry Moon
  6. Alexa De Paris
  7. Others Here With Us
  8. Girls and Boys
  9. Life Can Be So Nice
  10. 🖤 Or 💲
  11. An Honest Man (instrumental)
  12. Mia Bocca
  13. Venus De Milo
  14. Mountains
  15. Do U Lie?
  16. Kiss
  17. Sometimes It Snows In April
  18. Anotherloverholenyohead
  19. Old Friends 4 Sale
  20. All My Dreams

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I 100% agree.

I am only partially excited about the D+P release as the 90's was not my favourite Prince era but yes, if this is out so they can hopefully move on to an eventual PARADE SDE I am all for it.

I agree the production on Thunder is thin, but I like the production on Walk Don't Walk. Someone (Prince? Levi?) hums the bass line. That's fantastic.

I certainly wouldn't disavow that humming part or whatever. I feels like something is missing from "Walk Don't Walk." It always read a little "demo-esque" to me. It's a good song, but it feels skeletal.

There's a horrible irony in the fact that a song called "Thunder" sounds like a Taco Bell-induced fart, at best, when it comes to bass and heft. Sorta makes me think about "Cream" is so wonderful on the album, but live it's seriously lacking the same ambiance.

The whole first side is great stuff.

The second side is iffy. I don't believe "Insatiable" is in the same league as "Do Me Baby," "International Lover," "The Beautiful Ones," "Adore," "Joy In Reptition," "The Question of U," or "Scandalous."

"Push" is overproduced, but better without Tony M. "Money Don't Matter 2 Nite" isn't a bad song. I like that it's social and political. It's sorta medicore in production, though. Feels like it needs an acoustic guitar more upfront, or a Hammond B3 to give it some middle texture warmth. We ain't even talking about the shitshow that is "Jughead." I've made my note about "Walk Don't Walk."
I think "Live 4 Love" (sans Tony M.) is an urgent and aggressive romp, and I enjoy it.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Thunder is v theatrical and overblown despite the thin 90s production (why no reverb?)
I like it as its good for what it is but its a bit silly
Prince seemed big into theatrical stagey rock in the 90s

I don't know there's been 'uber hype' but it's his second biggest selling album. Whatever we may or may not think about it artistically, from the money people's point of view it must make perfect sense.

Uber hype being everyone here practically 50/50 on D&P vs. Parade next. With the 80s being the golden decade, I would've thought more folks who lean to 1986, not 1991. It's six of one, really.

I get it was a big album for him, which I'm happy for him. He needed the boost. I think that "Gett Off" and "Cream" could've felt like a bait and switch for the average listener once they got the whole thing.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

It has the lame pop hits which is the only reason this is coming out which gets me super anxious that we probably got maybe 2-3 SDE's left before the Estate decides the rest likely wouldn't sell enough to warrant curation.

"Diamonds & Pearls" easily his worst single/ballad of his career, but the track has somewhat sustained with the following gens so... here we are.

Totally agree. I do see how they're sister albums in many ways. But prince was far and above that of Diamonds and Pearls.

And I know I've said it before, but without Tony M. on prince, I find it even more engaging and pointed. When I edited him out, I had to really listen and find the natural ending, and cut out only the bars built to bring him in and end his bars. The songs sounded perfectly natural after that.

Those are all just such good songs. I do delete "Arrogance." I've not listened to it in years. The first half feels like a full album. The second half has more variance from pop, to lush mid-tempo stuff, to the "3 Chains..." extravaganza, etc. ,the only step out being "The Flow." But you basically go from "Damn U," take that flow break, but land back in smoother stuff like "7," "And God Created Woman," 3 Chains." Ahhh, such a good trilogy in the album there. Then the big banger "Sacrifice" ender.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.
