as long as fitting every track on the CD on the LP is a concern, the discs will continue to be undercooked and understuffed.
Are you saying they're more concerned with getting it down to less # of vinyl? Wouldn't more vinyl mean they could jack up the price yet another 50 bucks? |

I think they're working on the assumption that they can take an LP set so expensive and then no more... which I think is antiquated and that they could get a lot more money by releasing more content at the top level and then breaking it down into many different CD and LP configs: see the way Dylan has been doing his sets (for the most part...) |

Glam Slam appears to be the live audio, AND the Blu Ray.
wait a sec... wtf? Why is that necessary? Skip the duplicate CD version of the identical Blu Ray show and give us all the mixes or whatever.
Can't we emulate this "CD version" ourselves by simply not watching the video portion of the Blu Ray? [Edited 8/24/23 5:08am] |

Just listening back to the original D&P album on vinyl this morning.
After the passing of time, it’s interesting what your ears value (over 20 years on).
Tracks I’ve genuinely enjoyed (today) were: Daddy Pop; Diamonds & Pearls; Cream; Strollin’; Gett Off;
Thunder sounds really thin, and for an opener it just felt really weak (listening in 2023).
Other surprises - Jughead (surprisingly!!) - it’s funkier than I remembered and Rosie / Prince / Tony’s contribution keep it moving along at a lick. Push also.
Insatiable was never one of his strongest ballads IMO and Live 4 Love I just never got that track. Appreciate the live version has some blistering guitar on it though. It was a statement track, but musically it did nothing for me.
And all of that considered I can’t wait to hear this new collection! T |

So 10 minutes shy of 2 discs?? Hmm. Like they added 1 or maybe 2 tracks to give the illusion that the mighty Londell Spicer administration delivered with a whole full disc more than their predecessors when it's a literal extra breadcrumb from their seat cushions?
. It's about 12 minutes more than what could've fitted 2 CDs. A rather questionable editing decision indeed. At least they could've added the audio of the special olympics show onto one of the vault CDs, if they really didn't want to give us any other vault tracks.
.
With "Don't Say U Love Me" (4+ minutes) and "Darkside" (not in PPL database), which I hadn't counted, it will be more than 12 minutes. The reason we have so much unused space on those CDs is what lustmealways said: they have to fit the tracks on LPs as well. [Edited 8/24/23 5:10am] |

It's a bit of a shame they decided not to include "Dream". That track isn't even documented on PrinceVault - an early 90s ballad, with a linndrum. Amazing. But, it's not on here, along with a whole heap of other tracks they considered for the set.
They also didn't include the unreleased 12" of "Willing & Able".
Having said that, there's a good amount of decent content on here. Cream is an interesting version - a kind of lazy cocal with a compltely different mix. The extended D&P is also quite nice - from what I recall, it's a slightly different mix from the album.

Strangely omitted Yes it's really a shame, lots of tracks are missing and it was the same with 1999 and SOTT SDE. But the tracklist looks great cuz there's a few songs I haven't heard and I'm glad Standing At The Alter is on it. U are now an official member of the New Power Generation

So disc 6 and 7 are basically completely unnecessary/pretty much duplicates of what you get on disc 8. Actually slightly inferior since blu rays probably handle a higher bitrate than CD. [Edited 8/24/23 5:25am] |

er, rather, 6 and 7 are duplicates of what disc 8 already contains with double the media components. Even worse.
It's basically a glorified 5 1/4 disc set. [Edited 8/24/23 5:29am] |

The unreleased full versions for Gett Off and Insatiable (that were both on a previous config of the album before the single edit of Gett Off and the edited Insatiable were added, the lyrics to those are even in the booklet) are also missing. no I Wonder, Player, Game Boys Groove, aletrnate version of Call the Law a full instrumental called Lactation. Maybe they still need to find these or these are left off for another project. Oh and the Instatiable suite, but that is said to have been unfinished/abandoned so that could be a reason not to release it.

The original Gett Off for the album was a slightly longer version of the video version but shorter than the Purple Pump mix version (that one also isn't on there). The birthday promo 12 inch mix is what we are getting and that one is a the early version of the track. I expect the Instatiable version to be the one from 'Beginnings' and not the one from the earlier sequence.

Again, I am talking about violating the confidentiality of communication which is yet to be issued officially. When I logged in amazon.fr, they had removed the text description. There are people who may be affected by this unsollicited spread of information. Amazon may have posted it online in error, but it was reshared publicly and when i checked it had been removed. Kanissa Williams is a fan. I am not sure how she got involved in the project, but it would have polite and respectful to give a hours rather than being too impatient. She may not like very much that folks could not wait hours before resharing publicly. The same remark goes for people who keep posting information publicly about what they have uncovered, or what they think they have uncovered, days and weeks before the announcement. Looking for information and sharing it in private is completely normal, but the point is that sharing publicly is becoming a childish behaviour to the point that it can be seen as a deliberate breach of confidential details (confidentiality which is not being preserved), and the participation in the dissemination of information which should be kept private. There were so many Gett Off remixes between the official releases and the promos. I guess I'm not surprised they didn't bother including all of them. At least one of the Cream remixes (Ethereal Mix) isn't there either. All of my hang-ups have gone. How I wish you felt the same. |
