Prince Quote & Snopes

Jordan Liles, a senior editor at Snopes, tweeted that they've searched for a credible source for a Prince quote, but can't. Apparently the quote has been attributed to him, but I call bullshit. I don't know who started it, but it doesn't sound like him.

"Money won't buy you happiness, but it'll pay for the search."

I think in the last sixteen years of his life, he'd have pointed to God (more than ever before) as being the happiness that is priceless.

Again, I don't believe the quote is his. But I do feel like I've heard someone say something very close before. Thoughts?

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Isn't that quote from one of the live releases? Maybe One Nite Alone? I do recall him saying something similar. Maybe it was the Piano and a microphone version of Dirty Mind/Little Red Corvette? Prince has definitely said something like that imo 😎✌️🎸

He did say it on the ONA tour (it's on the ONA Live album too), but I suspect it's an old saying.

"Rich Friends"
It's an old saying, though.

IIRC says it on the RAVE DVD when he's showing off his new piano. Back then he was all about the money. He never stopped talking about how much he was making.

It's on ONA Live. He says at the end of Nothing Compares 2 U, before going into Free.

He doesn't claim it as his own - "They say..."

He also said about being from but not of the earth. (a bible paraphrase)...

But am sure he said the thing about money paying for the search...

but he used the word "money" in many of his albums... sometimes positive sometimes not so positive.

You're probably right, I've not watched the RAVE DVD for years, and I'm not about to.

I'm sure there is a video though. He's showing off the Schimmel Pegasus piano. He says the quote then wiggles his fingers magician style and the top of the piano opens.

EDIT: https://youtu.be/1NarDEEhOsM This is the video I was thinking of. But it starts after he says the line. Or I misremembered.

He was kinda was getting all about the money until he went full JW. Maybe it initially served the place or energy his religion would come to occupy.
